does anyone know if it can be used/accurate in other running shoes? i got it as a present and i really dont want to spend the $$ for another pair of shoes being that i just got a new non nike pair
I personally wouldn't use them in other shoes because there's no where to put the chip to protect it. Nikes have the little pocket, but it would bounce around in other shoes and I'd be afraid I'd land on it and break it.

I don't know the size of the Nike chip offhand, but couldn't you just get one of those inexpensive velcro key-pockets that attach to your shoelaces and place the chip in there?

I used a Nike chip before getting my Garmin watch. I didn't have Nike running shoes, and this was years ago, but I think I used to put the chip under the insole. Wherever it was, it didn't bounce around or break but I could feel the slight bump when running.

Yes, you absolutely can use it in other shoes. I have done it for a while and it doesn't bounce around or break. I don't think the PP knew what she was talking about.
I have a Nike+ Sportwatch with the chip and Saucony running shoes. I cannot feel it at all. It is under the shoe insole and I wear arch supports on top of that. It is accurate distance wise.

I bought my husband something very similar to this a few years ago and worked just fine for him.
This. Put it in the pouch and Velcro the pouch to your laces. You cab recalibrate the chip if you're worried about the distance being off.
