Hi ladies,
I'm throwing my first shower this fall so this is also an introduction of sorts
The only shower I've ever been to was my own which was a warped occasion. DS was born 10 weeks early and was in NICU, I had a strict pumping schedule, and my house had just burned down. In retrospect I should have asked the shower to be canceled because I was a hot mess.
Up until I gave birth (literally) I was working at a bar/restaurant so when I got to my shower hard liquor was being served.
So - as I gear up to plan a shower for the lovely girl who threw mine - are drinky drinks normal or is no alcohol acceptable?
TIA
Re: First timer - do people normally serve drink-drinks?
Good god, you had a rough time of it.
There has always been alcohol at my showers. I am from a big drinking circle/family though.
There is usually alcohol at showers I attend, but it just depends on who is hosting the MTB's shower.
I've been to both - with and without alcohol. Both of my baby showers with be without alcohol, which was the hosts' decision. Personally, it's nice to have a glass of wine or a mimosa at a shower but it's not necessary.

Great perspectives - thanks! I want to make a fun seasonal punch so perhaps I'll make something that can be complimented by adding some champagne
It's going to be very small (10-15?) and held in my apartment.

It's split here and just depends on the group. You can't go wrong either way IMO. I'll never forget the shower where they had separate punchbowls for the alcohol drink and the regular punch. My grandma got confused and never drinks, so it was a little funny to see her tipsy.
I've never been to a shower (bridal or baby) with alcohol, except one that was at a restaurant and you could order a drink if you wanted, but then you were paying for it yourself.
That being said, there will be champagne punch served at mine. I think either way is perfectly fine.
Super - I'll consult MTB and see what she'd prefer. Especially since she threw my shower! I like the champagne idea because that's pretty controlled. Like I said, I was working at a bar so booze was free flowing. Personally, it bugged me. I would have preferred no alcohol at all but I was in the midst of a touchy situation.
