My son isn't so great at eating finger foods.  He loves his bottle and purees, but now that the twins are nearly a year, I've cut back on purees, and been cutting up little pieces of fruit, cheese, veggies, meat, and he's not really into it.  I don't think he's filling up on his calories through foods.  It's like he eats, just a few peices (maybe 5 small pieces of fruit At the most), and that's it.  He pushes it away and is just not interested.  It also seems like my twins just aren't "satisfied" until they get their bottle.  Only once they drink it, then they feel better, their tummies are full and they are less cranky.  I give them water in sippy cups (DD likes it), but again DS drinks the water, but 1-2 sips and he's over it.  They've been snacking on finger foods for quite awhile, so it's not a new thing.  They do like eating those puffs....but for me that's not nutritious, so I only give them puffs when I need them distracted (like when I get ready for work).
So, I'm still giving them at least 5-6 bottles a day. 1 after they wake up , 1 before bed, and at least 2-3 bottles during the day.
I've tried all sorts of fruits and veggies, some with more success than others. DD is a bit better with the foods, and she quite likes fruits and veggies.
Not sure how I can get him to eat enough to satisfy himself, so I can decrease the formula intake.
Re: baby still prefers bottle over finger foods
Just keep practicing.
I honestly wouldn't be too worried about this. My 11 month old who is a fairly good eater, up until last week was still drinking 5 bottles a day. Then it was like she just got it and was done. She dropped one on her own and her nap bottle in the afternoon I replaced with a sippy.
Feed them before you give them a bottle...it seems to help them make the connection. They're also hungrier so they seem to eat more.
And remember it's just a phase. Every baby is different and they all do it in their own time. Not every baby is ready to give up the bottle and eats complete meals at once. I actually think it's a baby book myth..lol..I have years of kid experience and have met maybe 2 kids ready to go at 1.
Thank you for that. You're right, all babies at his/her own speed. I won't push him to drop his bottles yet. I may try to introduce more sippy cups.
i'm breastfeeding but we have the same "problem". Even if I fill him up on table food like yogurt and baby crackers he still wants to nurse like 20-30 minutes later. There's no way he can be hungry, he just hooked. I nurse him like 6-7 times a day and he's 10.5 months
I think it just depends on your babys personality because I have friends who are down to 2 nursing sessions a day and their babies eat practically all table food. My baby would never ever tolerate that, he'd be a grumpy mess
