Intro and vitamin question

Hi!  My husband and I are expecting our first child January 7th.  We got pregnant as soon as we started trying, but I've had bleeding since week 6 and been too concerned to introduce myself.  After a second good ultrasound at 9w2d, I wanted to finally say hi!

My question is about what brand of prenatal vitamins you all have been taking.  I have bought three types, and they've all make me sick (the gummies make me sick immediately, Nature's Made is too big, so I gag trying to swallow it, and the Kroger vitamin wakes me up sick a few hours after taking it).  I've had very bad morning sickness since about 6.5 weeks, and I've gotten to the point that I hate trying to take my vitamin because I almost always throw up right after.   Has anyone found a prenatal they like?

  • I take mine at night. You may see if that makes a difference for you.

  • I was on Prenate Elite last pregnancy and liked it.  This time I am on a prescription that is free at our pharmacy.

It sounds like you are already taking them at night which is usually a suggestion for people who get nauseous from their vitamins.  Another suggestion I heard from my Dr. was to take it with a glass of OJ.

  • I'm taking Flinestones Complete. My OB was totally cool with it as long as I took two a day.
  • I use NatureMade with DHA, they are horse pills but I'm lucky and don't have a bad gag reflex and so far they haven't made me want to throw up. They are the soft gel ones.

  • I'm taking New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal.  They're whole food based so a lot of people who have trouble taking the synthetic vitamins have good luck with these ones as they're a lot easier for your body to digest and absorb the nutrients.  It also has some probiotics and a herbal breast support blend in them.

  • I just take the target brand and did for last pregnancy also. They work ok for me. I take them at night before bed. I have to make sure I have something in my stomach though or else I feel sick.

This! These are some of the only ones I can handle. Perhaps it's because you break it up throughout the day instead of taking one huge horse pill at one time.

  • I take GNC - it says to take them with food - maybe that would help you?

  • I take my "horse pill" in the morning with food. It may sound gross, but I chew my food first then pop the pill and swallow together with chewed up food. No problems whatsoever. I do have to admit, however, that I seem to be one of the 25 % of women without any m/s...

  • I have 3 types of prenatal vitamins sitting on my bedside table.  I take twheyummies when I'm feeling queasy, and I really like the prescription samples that my ob gave me.  I don't remember the name of them.  I also have a bottle of the nature made ones.  Honnestly, those will probably stay put until after baby. They make me want to puke.

I take this brand too.  LOVE THEM.  Have never been sick from them and I like that they have iron in them (I don't know of any gummies that do).  They smell a little funky out of the bottle, but its never really bothered me.  I take their Wholemega DHA supplement as well.

  • Thank you all so much!! I am going to try New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal since so many of you have had good luck with it.  Thanks for all the input!

  • I've been bleeding since week 5 so I completely understand what you're going through! Congrats on the good ultrasound!!

I take Rainbow Light prenatal. It's made from foods so you're less likely to get sick. I really like it and haven't gotten sick from it once. I also add a DHA supplement.

Right now I'm taking BrainSmart Prenatal vitamins with breakfast. It's actually two pills. One vitamin, one DHA pill. I've not gotten sick at all yet. Doc gave me samples of Citrinatal which I will try when I run out of the other kind.

  • I'm on prescription simply because my OB is old school and prefers it.  I chose citranatal harmony- they are great and even have a stool softener included.  I agree with the other ladies about taking them with a meal and at night.  I take them immediately after dinner and have had no problems thus far.

Mom doing the same thing. I always have to eat as well before I that that pill. Luckily enough I can take it in the morning with no problem

  • I've been taking the prenatal 1 vitamins with DHA from VitaMedMD.  So far they haven't made me sick or anything so I'm going to stick with them.  They are kind of big and normally I have trouble swallowing huge pills, but they're gel caps so they're easier to get down than the ones with the chalky coatings.
