High-Risk Pregnancy

37wks and my GD is all over the place!

I swear it doesn't matter what I eat right now my blood sugar which has been diet controlled up to this point has no rhyme or reason. My fasting numbers are mostly in the 60's or lower, the rest of my day is anywhere from 78-184, and I check 1hr after meals. My after dinner numbers are the weirdest. I ate an all time high of 80 carbs last night and my blood sugar was only 90, 1 hr after eating. This morning my fasting was 68 and after eating 23 carbs, bread with peanut butter and an egg my blood sugar was 184. WHAT!? Am I just getting to the point where my sugar is unstable and there really isn't anything I can do? I have an appt on Monday and I really can't wait to hear what my OB has to say about this. Has anyone else had problems like this in the end of their pregnancy and if so, what did you do?

Sorry if this is all mashed together I'm on my phone.

Towards the end with my first things started going a little weird. But I ended up being induced at 37 weeks 5 days because of pre-e, so they never tried to push meds on me or anything.

  • hmmm well usually around 36 weeks is when you start seeing things start to level actually because the hormones shift (lessen) as your body prepares for birth.

Are your strips still good?  Maybe check the expiration date on them.  That can cause havoc.  I would also say as long as most of your numbers are okay and none are crazy crazy high (like over 200) you are probably okay.  I'm sure your OB will work with you, but usually they don't correct anything unless there is a pattern (like breakfast is always high, or dinner is always high).  Random high numbers are hard to manage, even for the doctors. =)

  • You body is more insulin resistant in the AM so lower carbs at breakfast is a must.  If your numbers are okay otherwise then I wouldn't worry.  Yes, check your strips, do you test your meter as well?  Those may be things to look into.
