VBAC

How did you decide on a vbac?

We just found out we're expecting #2, and I'm already thinking on vbac/cs.

a little history/info:

I was induced with my first. was in active labor for 2ish days, pushed for 3 hours and then had a cs. I was so out of it. i don't remember the 2 days after my cs. It was horrible.

I'm overweight and out of shape. I'm convinced this is no good for a vbac. am I wrong? does it have anything to do with it?

Part of me realllly wants to experience a vaginal birth. But to be honest, a LARGE part of me thinks it'd be great to just schedule a cs, go it, cut me open and have a baby. lol.

what made you decide? how did you decide? I'm so torn on this. obviously, I plan on talking to my dr about all this when I see him, just wanted to get some thoughts/opinions here.

Re: How did you decide on a vbac?

  • I had two main reasons for wanting a VBAC and several other less-important reasons to support my decision.

    1.  I felt my c-section (meaning my epi during labor never really worked quite right, and when they went to top it off before surgery... it didn't take)  One side of my body was numb, the other side was not.  Worst. experience. ever. EVER.

    2.  DH and I knew we wanted 3 children, and neither of us were okay with me having 3 c-sections.  To the point that if DS's labor had ended in a c-section, I would have requested my tubes be tied.  So VBAC was the best option for us.

It is an incredibly personal decision to attempt VBAC or to choose a RCS.  Go through your reasons, make pros/cons lists for both birth options, and interview as many providers as you can that are pro-VBAC.  Check ICAN (www.ican-online.org) for local meeting groups that you can talk with about your experience and wishes for your next birth.  HTH and best of luck to you!

I wanted a VBAC because we knew we wanted 3 or 4 kids and I didn't want to go through 3 or 4 csections if I didn't have to.  I also wanted to be more of a part of the delivery.  I struggled a lot with feeling like I failed after DD1's birth since I went through labor and pushed for 2 hours and she never dropped and she was only 7 lbs.  During my second pregnancy, I struggled with the decision for a long time.  I went into that labor with an open mind knowing it could go either way and I was okay with that this time. I figured if I didn't at least try then I might regret it for the rest of my life.  Glad I did since I did have a successful VBAC with a baby 2lbs heavier than my first.

It is a really hard decision to make.  Good luck to you!
