NOT planning birthday party yet / Not having big party

Just thought I should make a post for us since there are so many for those who already are.

I know LO could care less about decorations, his clothes, who is all there.  As long as there is cake and he gets extra attention he will be happy.  And birthday cake smashes when they are just in their diaper are cuter than a fancy outfit to remember.

The presents will be bought sometime in the month before, so will the outfit if he doesn't wear one he already has but I will not spend more than $20 on it.  The get together itself will most likely be the Wednesday--his actual birthday and only include one set of Grandparents that live near by.

So anyone with me on any of this??

ETA: Disclamer--I haven't been reading the birthday posts so I really don't know what size party everyone is planning.

Most of our family lives at least two hours away.  The weekend before LO's birthday is our fifth anniversary and a lot of my ILs have a town celebration they participate in during that weekend each year.

The weekend after LO's birthday is a family reunion on MH's maternal side.  MIL spent the last year (yes, before LO was born even) saying that we could have a party out there and and all go to the reunion- which of course removes my family and any of MH's paternal side from the equation.  Hmm

Just this last week, she suddenly said it wasn't a big deal if they missed the reunion one year if we want to have a BBQ here.

So...no real plans.  When a plan takes shape it won't be extravagant and probably won't have a theme or a special outfit either.  Not that I fault those who choose to go that route, but it's just not our thing.  :)

ETA: This family reunion happens every year.  I can't help but feel like they should be okay with skipping it just this once- you only have one first birthday.

No I wouldn't feel guilty for skipping a family reunion that happens every year.
