We're researching train sets for DD's birthday. We've looked at Thomas, Imaginarium, and some off-brands in person, and we've checked out Melissa and Doug online.
Which train set do you love (or not like so much) and why?
We bought DS the Imaginarium one. It's nice enough and has held up to the torture DS inflicts upon it. It's also very inexpensive compared to the Thomas set (I think I paid $99 around Christmas for the whole set) If I had unlimited funds, I would have gone with the BRIO sets.
Thank you! Mrs Day--good to know the tracks are compatible with other sets. Argonne--never heard of the BRIO one, but they sound out of our price point as well Thanks again!
We got son the Geotrax Timbertown remote set for xmas. He also received a Thomas wooden set and prefers the Geotrax. I just put both sets away because he rarely played with them and they took up a lot of room. I will bring them back out in a few months.

Brio, Thomas, and Imaginarium are all compatible. We have an imagniarium set, but we've purchased all the thomas trains, and a few of the track set ups. Asher loves all his trains, but he enjoys the Thomas trains with the faces the best.

I have heard BRIO is the best. We have Thomas because that was what was given to DS for his birthday.
I'm pretty sure BRIO and Thomas are compatible??
If you are buying yourself, check out Craigslist. I always see train sets listed.
