2nd Trimester

Diapers

Ok so for a boy baby, how important is the "name brand" of diaper that you use. One of my girlfriends said that for boys, you can really use generic diapers especially during the day, and to use a name brand at night just to hold in any big blow outs that happen. Is there validity to this? Is it true that since boy babies just pee in one spot (as opposed to a girl baby who's pee spreads out more) the brand is less important?

We purchased 2 packs of 194 babies r us brand diapers today for 10 dollar each box! We figured we would try our luck!

Re: Diapers

  • I don't have a boy but I used the costco brand (kirkland) diapers for DD. I had no issues with them at all

  • I heard that BRU diapers were good. I almost bought some online today, but would pay more in shipping than I would have for the diapers Super Angry
  • I never tried BRU diapers b/c I've always had great luck with Huggies Natural Fit for my DS. I did try Pampers, but he ended up getting a rash from the silicone-like substance they use in them. I'm a dedicated Huggies Natural fan. I just hope they work as well for little girls. And BTW, boys may only pee in one spot, but it spreads throughout the whole diaper unless you change him RIGHT away. Plus, there are the poopy diapers, too. You definitely don't want blow-outs on those.

  • I watch my two nephews for a living, 2 and 9 months, and I have since they were 6 months.

The older one is starting to hold it, but both of them needed diaper doublers at night and the little one still does. Sometimes this can be corrected by feeding a little before bed time, but that will be later in the first year.

My SIL uses pampers, and I really don't like them. The insides leave little bits of white cloth or something on their skin. Both of the boys were having problems with the tip of their "things" tearing from the base. Some cream cleared it up, but I think it was from a combo of the diapers falling apart and improper wiping, not that all those folds make wiping easy.

The diaper doublers really worked well for the most part, as long as they were placed correctly. Not sure where she got them but they basically look like big maxi-pads.

  • I'm a brand-name gal with DD.  Even Luvs seem cheap, and I have to change her more often.

Check out babycheapskate.blogspot.com for diaper reviews on practically every diaper you can imagine, and after baby comes, for the best weekly diaper deals.

  • I know women that use different diapers for all of their kids based upon the babies shape. One of my cousins has no butt and certain brands fell right off of her, another kid had chubby legs and needed a different brand.?

We're going to get a small package of one to start and see if it works. If it does we'll keep using it, but if not, we'll try another one until we find what the baby will be comfortable with.?
