I have my 2nd C-Section scheduled for June 27th, and I AM FLIPPING OUT! I am SO nervous about having this planned surgery! I do not remember much the first time around because they drugged me up good( I was flipping out then..) Had to be an emergency because my daughter's heart rate dropped scary low after 13 1/2 hours of labor!
What can I expect for a planned C-Section? I'm not too thrilled that it's at 4 in the afternoon, ... therefore, I cannot eat past 7am that morning,...and who knows when they'll let me eat anything afterwards. Im going to be STARVING!!!!
Re: C-Section Scheduled
I have no idea but we just scheduled ours for 3 pm on the 21st. They told me I'm not allowed to eat after midnight and need to be at the hospital at 1 pm. So I'm going to starve with you and I'm jealous that you can eat until 7 am!
Mine was at 4pm too...the pros are that you don't have to get up way early, you get to eat breakfast, and you have the morning to run errands or do last minute cleaning, etc. before the baby arrives. For me, I was so nervous that I didn't feel like eating anyway so it wasn't too bad and hopefully you will be the same way so you are not starving!
As for what to expect, every hospital is different so you may want to check with your OB on specifics. But for me, here is how it went:
-Arrived at 2pm: taken into an antepartum room, given lots of forms to sign, change into hospital gown, hooked up to monitors
-While waiting for the c-section: IV is inserted, anesthesiologist comes in to discuss the procedure (this is where you can ask for anti-nausea meds if needed since you haven't eaten all day), OB comes in to check you (mine did an u/s to confirm still breech as that was the reason for my cs)
-4pm: DH and I walked to the surgery wing, DH was given a sterile scrub type suit thing to put on (not sure what it is called) and told to wait in the recovery area until the nurse comes to get him, kissed DH and then I was walked to the OR
-Prep: sat on table and got spinal, laid down and then about 20 people start coming into the room (this is normal so don't be worried), before I knew it DH was by my side and the procedure started
From there it should be pretty much the same as your first! HTH and GL!
