New to The Bump

Introducing Myself... new and off BCP

Hello Everyone! I am new to The Bump... and to TTC!  My husband and I have decided to start trying this summer, so I stopped BCPs after my last period.  I have learned such valuable information on this website just from lurking and reading for the past few weeks, so thank you to everyone who posts!

I did not know about temping in time for the middle of my cycle this month... of course, having been on BCP since 2004 I honestly have no idea if or when I will ovulate.  But I am excited to start the process!  We had sex in the days surrounding and on CD 14, and I think I will take a test this weekend for the first time.  Aside from some cramping and not much appetite in the past few days I have no major symptoms to report.

For all you ladies coming off BCP, I would be interested to hear how you felt in the first months... I had some interesting and uncomfortable back pain right around CD14-16 which has never happened before... curious to know if others fresh off a long time on BCP had anything like that?

Thanks again, I look forward to posting with you all in the future! Big Smile

  • I have heard you get those pains from ovulating... don't quote me on that, I have been on birth control as long as you have and stopped mine on June 1st so I haven't gotten that far into my cycle yet.

     Good Luck!

  • Thanks!  I certainly hope that's true.  Not that I enjoy backaches but given when we got after it that week that would give us a shot.

Good luck to you as well, keep me posted on the process! :)

  • Hopefully you get good news!  And welcome!!  I am also new to The Bump.  DH and I decided to ditch all forms of BC mid-May just before I was set to ovulate.  Having my visit from AF this week which was kind of a bummer.  We will start actively trying (meaning I'll start charting my BBT and other stuff) in September.  I'm hoping it'll happen before then.

But that first month off BC I did have several side effects.  My nipples were extremely sensitive and painful.  They hurt all the time for over a week.  it started about three weeks off of the nuva ring.  I've read that's a common side effect when stopping the nuva ring.  I also had severe back pain mid-May a day or two after we stopped using condoms.  I was hopeful it was ovulation.  I'm using an app on my phone called Period Tracker to keep all these notes.

    Good Luck TTC!

  • I just got off bcp the first of may. I had a strange light AF mid may, about 2 weeks later. Then I started to get the worst Pms symptoms for the past 2 weeks. Bloated, sore nipples, headaches, cramps, bad dreams, back pain, dry mouth .. You name it. I actually thought we conceived I was feeling so bad. But then my AF suddenly came tonight.  I'm really happy it did because my body has been a mess this past month and. Now I can actually start a true cycle off bcp! Pms symptoms are identical to pregnancy symptoms.

Start by lurking in the TTC board. There are some great ladies with very informative posts!  Good luck!

  • Congrats and good luck.  My DH and I are sort of on the same page as you.  I stopped BC on April 18 (took out my Nuvaring and did not replace).  I had my period that week and haven't had one since.  I keep spotting a lot though.  I'll spot for 3 days, then nothing for a few days.  More days spotting than not.  Nothing like in my underwear, I just notice when I go to the bathroom.  I'm chalking it up to crazy hormones getting back to normal.  I don't think I have ovulated.  We are going on a big trip in Sept so I'm going to start temping when we get back.  I guess just practicing for now, but who knows what could happen? :)

  • Hi there!  Good luck getting back on track!  I am also hoping that my body rebounds quickly from years on BCP:)
