VBAC

Hi (Again)

I posted once here right after the birth of my son (before the c-section board was created) about my c-section experience and my desires to try for a VBAC.  DH and I are now going to start TTC in August and the thought is again in my mind.  I figure I might just start posting here more often to get more information.

I'm Lob/Laura and my DS is Scott.  I had a c-section after a failed induction at 38.5 weeks after I developed gestational hypertension (but not pre-e)

I'm also curious if anyone else is in the same boat as me.  I actually never went into labor, never felt a contraction because they had to stop my induction after DS had several heart decelerations (his head was cocked weirdly inside).

I'm still nervous about laboring since I didn't actually go through it last time.

Re: Hi (Again)

  • You are strong for having gone through your own birth experience, even if it didn't involve active labor.....You also have more knowledge about issues that can arise that one might not be prepared for.  Smile

  • I was induced at 41 weeks, progressed to 9cm, stalled there for 6 hours, got an epi, and then DS started having heart decels with contractions (a very common side effect).  They said his head was kinked to the side and that's why I he was stuck.  They said I never would have been able to push him out (which I now know is BS, there are a lot of noninvasive methods of getting a baby into a more favorable birthing position--I used two of them during my VBAC!)

I had a wonderfully successful (if not long--36 hour labor) VBAC nearly 3 months ago.  To prepare mentally and emotionally I read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and Hypnobirthing--both of which are very encouraging to natural births and trusting your baby and body to know when the best time is to give birth.

I hope the best to you this time!  The idea of going into labor and giving birth is daunting, but by the time you get to 40ish weeks you'll be ready ;-)
