Post C Section - Exercise ?

When did you start exercising and what did you do?  I will be 4 weeks PP tomorrow, and I've just been taking lots of walks since having LO.  I am 7 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight and would love to lose another 5 lbs.  My body feels ready for exercise, but my Dr. said nothing until I see her for my 6 week check up.  I'm curious to see what others have done.

  • Waited until I was cleared by my OB. Your only 4 weeks PP and you're almost back down to your pre-pregnancy weight already-you have nothing to worry about.

  • I walked until 6wks then slowly started adding more and more real exercise. It took a while to do abs for me especially after ds2. I would wait until 6wks. If you push to soon you can really hurt yourself.

  • I wouldn't push it.  Drs say 6 weeks for a reason!  You just had MAJOR abdominal surgery, so take it easy.  You are almost to the pre-preg weight so don't stress.  It will come off quickly after you are cleared, but if you try and overdo it you may not be able to exercise for awhile!

GL and congrats on your LO!

This. I was cleared for "real" exercise at 8 weeks PP. Before that, I was allowed only walking.

  • No exercise here but my PP appt is Wednesday. I still plan to listen to my body. I walk my son to school and walk to pick him up. It's 2 miles per day. Sometimes, randomly, I am still sore after.

    Slow your roll.

I was cleared at 4w pp and I went right into working out. Bad idea. I ended up in more pain than I'd been in the entire time.

  • I waited until 6 weeks and started a Stroller Strides class. I started slowly and worked my way back into it. If it hurt, I backed off.

  • I only walked for 9 weeks then I returned to teaching kickboxing and weight lifting. I was in no rush to do anything before then. Major abdominal surgery and it was actually nice just walk with my girlfriends and the baby. Your core will continue to heal and get stronger over the next several months. Planks are best!
