Anybody else's baby STILL sleep like crap?

I don't mean 4 month wakeful or growth spurt. I mean like never regularly sleeping more than2-3 hours. I keep trying to figure out what's wrong with her. Like surely there is a medical condition to blame ( I don't think so). Dd goes to bed around 7-8 she may make it till 10 or 11 then it's every 2 hours from there. Im feeling so desperate I was going to sleep train her but now she's getting sick again so that's out. She sleeps in the rnp or with me cradled in my arms. She won't sleep flat.. ever. She acts like the crib or cosleeper have acid on them when you lay her down. She's never cared for being swaddled either. We've attempted a bedtime routine but she's so different everyday it's hard to figure out. Any ideas or suggestions?

My DD was like this and I won't even tell you how long it took her to outgrow it, because it will just depress you.  But she did eventually outgrow it.  She was resistant to all sleep training as well; I read every sleep book on the planet and nothing really helped except for time.  Hugs to you, I know how you feel!  It is rough.

  • Hugs, Karlee. E still doesn't nap - unless we are going somewhere and I am forced to wake her. That NEVER fails. I have tried everything and most days the minute I put her down she wakes right up. And that is in the RnP. I am not even thinking about the crib until we transition. So while I have tons of empathy - no advice.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • Oh yeah.  It's frusterating for me though because she has gone 6-7 hours before but hasn't for the past 2 weeks.  I hope there's only 8 more months of it.

  • Me! LO only sleeps 3-4 hour increments, most frustrating thing he will sttn in his swing, but we've transitioned him to the crib. It sux, the first stretch is 3-4 hours then he wakes to eat then I give in and put him in his swing for my own sanity. Oh and he only naps on me, but god forbid if I stop moving. Not to mention his new thing of arching his back so he's impossible to put to sleep, you have to walk n bounce him. Yes I'm miserable about sleep.

  • Thanks yall. Its good to know I'm not alone. Im sorry you guys I keep posting negative stuff. I sound like Eyore.. Poor me.. Lol. I told dh about falling asleep while driving on the interstate so he's insisting on giving dd a bottle tonight. I'm going to let him. So maybe I'll be fresh and new tomorrow. Lol

I though ds2 was bad till I had dd. I read every sleep book with him and did a modified CIO. It helped him go to sleep by himself but he still woke up a couple of times a night until 15 months.

  • Yep! DS has had one 6 hour stretch and maybe two 5 hour stretches. He will also go to bed around 8 and maybe make it to midnight (if I'm lucky) but after that it's every 2 hours or less! He sleeps in the RnP next to my bed so I don't know if I need to get him in his crib? I don't know what to do either. Wish I could offer advice!

  • Yep! We are up every 2 hours around the clock.  And, 90% of the time, massive tears are involved at bedtime.  I just want to rock my boy into sweet oblivion without it becoming a screaming, clawing, kicking event. :(

  • I know you said she's in the RNP... is it in your bedroom?  If so, have you tried moving it into her room / another room? Not necessarily into her crib at first - but moving the RNP?  My LO will wake all the way up if she can smell me near her... moving her into her own room now that she's so much more alert has really helped!

  • I'm right there with you. DD has never STTN. We are up every 2 to 3 hrs every night. I'm exhausted thinking about it. The closest we have gotten is that she will sleep 5 to 6 hour stretches without eating but it requires us to constantly sooth her, either by pulling her close (she sleeps with us....not ideal but only way we get some sleep!) or putting her paci in her month when she starts to fuss...we have tried feeding her 5 oz of BM before bedtime thinking that she was not eating enough from me but that hasn't helped...we are going to try to move her to the pack n play in our room in the next week...maybe that will help her sleep??? Didn't work before but worth trying again I guess...sorry I'm no help...but when I find the answer I will share!
