Sorry if this is a dumb question...but I'm still confused about the MP and bloody show...are these two separate things? I understand that the MP can be kind of gloopy and bloody...is the bloody show similar or more bloody, less gloopy?
Sorry for the nice imagery
Re: Mucous Plug vs. Bloody Show
there the same thing.
With DD, my midwife told me they were the same thing. It was only when I came back to the States that I started reading about them described separately. Personally, I think they're the same thing. When I lost mine with DD, it looked like a big, nasty, bloody glob of snot. Apologies if that's a bit TMI but it's true. Also, I didn't lose mine until about five hours after labor started.
I believe they are two separate things. The plug may come out without bloody show (which was my case) and it regenerates. PP was right in describing it as snot-like...
If the plug comes with blood, that is bloody show and usually indicates impending labor. The MP by itself doesn't.
That's how I understand it.
Not necessarily, I lost my MP at 36w3d-37w, regenerated and at 38w6d I lost it again with the bloody show. The first time no blood. I will be 39w6 tomorrow and have no impending labor.
In my paperwork of what to do when in labor, it states losing mucus plug/bloody show does not indicate impending labor. Call if blood was dripping down your leg.
I think that one of my books said that bloody show is indicative of labor, but I am not there yet. Just lost the plug.. yuck!
