TTC after 35

failed attempt at my HSG

They couldn't get the catheter past my cervix and into my uterus.  The doc (not my usual one - this was the one they could book me with in the timeframe I needed) said that my cervix would push back further even after changing to a different type catheter - it happens occasionally, but is not that common.  They were not set up to do some sort of clamp on the cervix to hold it in place.  Waiting to hear back from my doc on the next steps.  I am glad I took the whole day off.  I would be a weeping mess at work.  At least the pain wasn't as bad as I feared.  It was like the worst pap I ever had with some cramping and discomfort.

Called DH on the drive home.  He is swamped at work and wasn't able to come with me.  He did his collection at home this morning and was pretty nervous and the volume wasn't what he expected/was hoping for.

Just not a good day up here.

  • Big ole cyber hug for you.  Have a glass of wine and try to relax the rest of the day.

  • I am so sorry to hear this.  Were you doing it with an RE or just a radiologist?  I was told the same thing at my first HSG.  The second time, I had a different doctor and he was able to do it and I got the all clear.  I hope the same thing happens for you.  Good luck!

  • Definitely recommend that you and DH have a glass of beer/wine together tonight. Take a deep breath, too. I'm sure another try at the HSG will be successful-- sometimes, we have to get 3 docs in at work to get something done (like a foley insertion) because sometimes, it's just the right "fit" between a doctor with his/her own specific technique and a person's anatomy.

    ((hugs))  Hang in there!

This is exactly what I needed to hear!  He was a radiologist that does them often.  Next attempt will be with my OBGYN/IF specialist.  Hope I get the same results as you.

  • Oh gundy. I'm so sorry this happened. Something similar happened to me and man, was it painful and upsetting. The HSG is such an easy procedure, except when it isn't. Try to relax and take care of yourself.
  • I'm sorry. It sounds like my experience with the HSG, only they did have the clamp available and it helped, though they still didn't get the catheter all the way through. That sucks that you have to go through it again. Hugs.

  • Oh gosh you poor poor thing .. I just had mine on Tuesday and it was the worst thing I have ever gone thru .. I am very interested in hearing what the nexts steps are from your doctor :)   And hopefully your DH got just enough to do a good testing! :)  You two need a nice dinner out just the two of you! :)
  • Oh, Gundy I am so sorry.  Can you & DH go out for a date night tonight or tomorrow?  Or do something to cheer yourselves up?
  • Doing better today.  Still a little crampy and my groin area is sore (the were up in there for quite a while yesterday).  Haven't heard from the doc on next steps yet.  Will be calling tomorrow if I don't hear from her before then.  Hoping she will have the SA results, too.

I have a massage booked for Saturday (was scheduled long before the HSG appointment was made).  Looking forward to that.  DH also ducked home from work yesterday for about 30 minutes to check on me which was so nice.

Thanks for all the support.  I'll post an update once I hear some news.
