water breaking i.e. leaking? Help!

Okay... sooooo help.

I went on a little walk with a co-worker to get some sun. Super. When we were standing outside before walking in the building i felt a large warm trickle go in my underwear. I ran into the bathroom to see if my water had broke in my underwear I had a HUGE wet spot and a bit of mucus.

However it has not gushed, and this was maybe 10 minutes ago. I went to the bathroom again with a huge wet spot but not soaked through and no trickling down my legs. I'm sitting down now waiting to see if it soaks through my underwear or clothes... before I call the doctor.

But anyone have experience with "leaking" and if so, could you describe how it felt? I don't want to be insane and it's likely just a huge increase in dishcharge etc... but you know, playing it safe. =) BTW it does NOT smell like urine, I checked to be sure LOL.

  • That sounds like what happened to me...I had a bit of mucus when I wiped and a bit of fluid, and throughout the afternoon I just started leaking more and more. At no point was there ever a gush, just a steady leak that eventually got heavy enough to soak through pads and underwear to my clothes.

    Good luck!

ok thank you so much for your response! I'm thinking it's probably just discharge but I will be watching closely to see if it continues!

  • My water leaked with DD1. I had gotten up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and after I got done I felt some fluid and thought maybe I lost bladder control. I stood up and it kept coming in little gushes/trickles. Maybe try sitting down for awhile and stand up to see if it happens again. For me I didn't even need to sit/lay down (since standing can cause baby's head to act as a cork and stop the "leaking") for the trickling to keep coming.

And if in doubt, call your OB or go to the hospital...they can check for you.

  • I've had extremely water discharge the past couple of days, to where it leaves a big soaked spot in my undies. I've noticed there's always a bit of mucus-y type stuff on top of it, though, too. It didn't drip down my leg or anything, but I def. felt it leak out. googled, and read that it's common to get really water discharge towards the end of pregnancy, so I chalked it up to that. Plus, it's only happened once, and hasn't continued.

Keep an eye on it, and if it keeps 'trickling' or gushing, I'd probably call! :)

  • I'd call to be safe and get checked - expecially if you're not sure.

This. When my water broke with DS I was laying in bed. It didn't exactly run all over the place. My Dr. told me that the babies head can act as a cork especially when you are upright. I would call to be sure. Good Luck!!

  • This exact thing happened to me, just a few hours before I went into labor.  My underwear was visibly wet with some mucus and threads of red blood.  I had no idea what it was, and I there wasn't any more "leaking," so to speak.  I called the doctor to be checked for amniotic fluid.  Turns out that it was not fluid- just very watery discharge.  However, not sure if it was nature taking its course or the examination itself, but I had my baby 5 hours after leaving the doctor's office!!! Good luck to you- hopefully this is it!
