Most Annoying Names

Some names are like nails on a chalkboard to me.  For example, I can't stand Nevaeh, Sophia and Isabella, as well as Jaydin.

What names are the worst for you?

Re: Most Annoying Names

  • Sorry to the Heathers and Jamies out there- but I can't stand those 2 names.  I also hate all Kynlee/Brynleigh/Kylie type names.  And the -ayden craze has gotten out of hand.  I also hate unisex names.  Why would you want people to see your child's resume and not know what sex he/she is?  Peyton/Cameron/Quinn/Taylor/Jordan, etc. drive me nuts.

Um, actually I think that's a big reason why people like unisex names...

Really?  Like gender stereotyping?  I never thought of that.  That doesn't stop me from hating unisex names.  Sorry- I'd like to know if people are male or female.

I'm with you on this one.  I'm not a huge fan of unisex names, but they do have their place.

I hate Mason and Zoe - just the say it sounds.

    Overly trendy names like Harper.

Old lady names like Gertrude, Beatrice, Margot.

Over used names like Sopia, Isabella, Madison.

I actually love unisex names for boys and girls, I also like gender neutral clothing. Or blue for girls and pink for boys. I HATE gender stereotypes and roles.

  • Girls: I really dislike overly fussy names like Arabella, Annabella, Isabella, Annamaria, etc. Isabel, Annabel, and Annmarie are fine. It's the extra -ahs I don't care for. Also, boy names on girls ie Morgan, Rhys, Cameron, and Parker. Boys: common surnames that aren't family names for the "namer."

  • Many of the names already mentioned by other posters.

Atticus.  I don't see what people like about this name at all, other than maybe a literary connotation.  It sounds so harsh.

    Cooper.  It sounds like pooper.

Most boy names that end in -n.

  • I dislike Nevaeh, certainly seems to me that there's a certain brand of folks who choose this name, and I don't much care for them either. In my experience, anyway.

My name is Tiffany, and I hate hate hate hate hate it. I swore I would not give my child a trendy name, and I don't plan to.

  • UGH.  These threads really annoy me.  It's common etiquette on this board to not make negative comments about names that have already been used.  I rarely open these threads but today I did, and I wish I didn't....

For the record, I have a son named Cameron.  The name is #28 in popularity in my state for boys, not even on the list for girls.  I don't consider it a unisex name, rather a boys name that can sometimes be used for girls.

    ::steps off soapbox::

  • I don't like Jayden or Braydon at all.

I also am sick of Bella. I don't see the appeal of this name. It's just so "blah" for me. I do like Isabel though.

I really, really dislike Augustine. I cannot stress this enough on this forum since it seems to be well regarded, LOL.

Umm nooo, it's common etiquitte not to insult a name someone has already used, specifically. This is about general names you dislike. No one is saying, "Caramia, I dislike your child's name"

Don't just make up what our etiquette rules are.

And for the record, I don't see your son's name insulted anywhere in the previous posts.

  • Kayla, Mikayla, Kaylee, Kylie... I really hate those names. There's nothing solid in them; they're like name junk food.

For boys, I hate Mason. I just am so dang tired of hearing it; I don't see the appeal at all.

  • The only name the BUGS me is Declan. I can't believe how popular it is???? To me it is doesn't sound nice and reminds me of a duck.

A few others that I'm not a fan of:

Annabel, Abigail, and Elli dpn't seem to grow with the child

Amelia (over used and too many Amy's)

Cooper and Penny (Penelope) seems better as animal/pet names

Thristin, Lee - not manly enough

    what punky said!

" my sons name is bob, do you guys like it?" that is when we dont remark on a name...

totally different than what names dont you like..

  • And 2 or 3 people on this forum have said they don't like my son's name and I really just don't care. I care that I love it.

  • I can't stand the names Jennifer and Heather.  I also don't like to be able to know what year the person was born in based on their name.
  • Oh god, I hate Neveah. I'm also really not a fan of religious names. As much as their parents love Jesus and all that, it doesn't guarantee the child will grow up into that same religion. I know a few atheists named Christian, Faith, Angel, and other names from the bible and they find it so embarrassing. At least 2 of them have legally changed their names because they find it so embarrassing.

I also don't like Kayla, Amber,  Crystal... as far as Crystal goes it falls under the category of people naming their kids after expensive things, like Mercedes, Bentley, Chardonnay, Chanel, etc... as well as virtue names like Hope, Patience, Chastity. They all sound like stripper names.

There are a lot of names like Mason, Emerson, Hayden, and Cole that I don't hate on the basis of the name alone, but more so because they're just so damn trendy, I'm sick of them.

And I don't think I need to elaborate on "youneek" names.

Tear, sniff :(  I am one of those Heathers!  LOL, no worries, I am not a fan of my name either :)

I am over Isabelle and Sophia as well, so overdone.

I also HATE names that end with and 'i'.  Like Tiffani, Misti, Andi, etc.

I'm not "making up" rules.  I just think it's contradictory that insulting a child's name is not ok but threads like this are.  I just felt compelled to share my opinion. You don't have to agree with it.

And you don't have to agree with how it is either.  Its not like "what are the most annoying names from people on The Bump's signatures?"  What's the purpose of the name board then?  For us to all agree and be like I LOVE all the names?  Where does that get the person.  I love my names and someone from an internet board isn't going to change my mind.  I don't mind -son names on girls like Addison.  That's not the popular opinion on this board but it doesn't make me change my mind on it.  It is not a SPECIFIC child's name.  Did you see the post above about the arrival of Ella Elizabeth?  Do you see anyone saying I HATE the name Ella? No you don't.  Do you see anyone respond to a post of mine and tell me "Oh, by the way MelC117, I hate the name Eli Jeffrey"?  No you don't.  If you don't like it then get off the board.

I want everyone to like the same name and for this board to be nothing but puppies and rainbows.

Edited to not sound so snippy. ;)

  • imageKimbus22:

I hate all of the Jayden, Caden, Brayden etc names that are popular now.  And most of the Jennifer, Heather, Britney, Tiffany names that were big when I was growing up.

    THESE.

     Plus the name Jessica.Yuck.

Not to offend anyone obviously, by any of these names, but those are the ones I can't stand!

Anniversary DS was born 11/30/12... so in love :)

I'm with you on this one.  I've never cared for it and, everytime I see it, I think it says "declaw" (random, I know).

I'm also not a fan of names ending in an -ee sound (usually spelled with a "y).  Kinsley, Hailey, Kaley, etc.  I think this is only because it seems to be a huge trend here in the south.  I used to love names like Ainsley and Finley, but now I can't stomach them.  :(

I also dislike old lady names like Harriet.

  • Boys-Eli,Levi,any "den" name like Aiden, Arthur, August, Walter,

Girls-Nevaeh, Gertrude, Bella, Arabella, Edith, Olive, Agnes, Fern, Autumn, Summer, Trinity, Destiny.

  • There are a lot of names that get to me, and most of the time there's no specific reasoning behind it other than that I just hate how they sound. There's --

Ann/Anna/Anne (no offense, anyone) -- I don't really like this name b/c it's really old-fashioned, I guess, and it reminds me of my mother. It's her mn and we really don't have a good relationship. I actually really like -ana names, though, such as Liliana. Doesn't really make sense, I know.

Sopia & Isabella -- These names just bug me.

Ainsley -- I never know how to pronounce this name and always end up saying Annslee, and on top of that I just find it really unattractive.

William (again, no offense, anyone) -- This name seems pretentious to me. Partly it's b/c people are naming their children after royalty and partly b/c it's my father's name and he's a pretentious d-bag, so a lot of it comes from him.

  • I also dislike Destiny, along with the names Faith and Hope. Agnes, Claudia, and the popular 90s names of Brittany and Heather are rather painful to hear too.

Personally I hate my name, Courtney. Always have.

My son's name is Kaeden (deemed one of the unique trendy ones I later found out) but I'd never met or heard of anyone with a name similar before...small town living I guess.

  • I dislike -son names (even though DH is one; I never address him by his name though, and his is different enough and out of the popular -son age group), particularly on girls.

Boy names or "unisex" names on girls.

    All the rhyming -den names.

    Neveah is just...bad.

I also dislike when people use ethnic names/spellings when they have no ties to that ethnicity; like using Giulia instead of Julia.

For the record, my name is Mercedes, it is a Spanish name and means "mother of mercies."  Even though I am Hispanic the community I grew up in was not, so I didn't like my name when I was young.  Now I like it, though.

ETA: Also, names with random apostrophes and/or other punctuation.

  • hmp1hmp1 member
Wow, my name is really taking a beating. While I wouldn't name a baby girl Heather today, I certainly don't hate my name. It actually meets my main criteria for a name - easy to spell and easy to understand on a conference call.

  • Agreed! I also hate Kin- names such as Mckinley, Kinsley, etc. I loathe Ainsley.
