Traveling without baby

I work for a huge company and love my job so will definately be going back to work after baby is born. We will get a nanny as DH and I both work long hours and daycare closes at 6pm. Yesterday I got a call asking when I plan on returning from Mat leave as they would like for me to go to Europe for a week.... Team building yada yada. As much as I am super excited about the prospect of going to Europe for the company I would probably have literary just returned to work. I am freaking out about leaving DH with a 3 month old. Do you think it is too soon to travel away from home when baby is so young?

Re: Traveling without baby

  • Fortunately, DH will have the Nanny, and you have time to plan for it if you do choose to go but my biggest questiong is: Will you be breast feeding? If so, a week out of the country may not be a good idea.

  • I agree - it's breastfeeding that makes travel difficult.  I don't have to travel for work so the first work trip I had was about 9 months out for four days and I brought back a ton of milk.  Luckily, DD would drink my frozen milk at the time (later she wouldn't).

  • I'm in a similar situation...I have an event that I'm working on that is planned for October and my boss would like me to be there.  Even though it could be a week or two before I'm actually expected back to work...I'm due at the beginning of July.

I am also nervous to leave but figure if it's not in October it will be soon there after.  I guess the breastfeeding is an issue if I'm still doing it by then.  I would imagine you could pump...although a weeks worth might be a lot?  I'm not sure.  Good luck with your decision and trip.

I trust my DH completely, so yes--even though i would miss my baby, I know she will be in good hands
