Lube Poll

I am still TTC but thought all the newly pregnant ladies would know the best answer to this question.  I have low CM so we usually use regular lube.  For TTC we switched to Preseed but my DH says it doesn't feel as good.  In your opinion (based on what you did) does it matter what kind you use?[Poll]

Re: Lube Poll

  • Switch to sperm friendly lube ASAP.  If a lube is not specifically sperm friendly then it can seriously inhibit pregnancy.

  • We used Preseed throughout most of our 2 years TTC. However, both times I got bfp's, we hadn't used anything.

  • We got pregnant with DD using KY (first month trying) and pregnant with this LO with Astroglide. They may not be sperm friendly, but unless you have sperm issues to contend with, I don't think you'll have much of a problem because of lube in particular.

  • I got pregnant once with PreSeed and once using Astro Glide.  The second time we were taking a break from ttc becuase we were moving from Germany to North Carolina, and still got KU.

  • Straight from the Astroglide website:

Can I use Astroglide while trying to conceive?

Astroglide is not a spermicide and will not kill sperm. Studies have shown, however, that Astroglide as well as other topical lubricants do inhibit the motility or movement of sperm. Knowing this, if you choose to use Astroglide, we suggest using a small amount applied to the outer area. Discontinue use if conception is not achieved in a reasonable amount of time. It is always advised to consult your physician first and to follow his or her recommendation.

Isn't it funny how you can try to plan something so perfectly and then BAM it happens when you least expect it!  :)

  • the cycle I got pg, I used pre-seed, but not every time. But seriously switch to that stuff pronto if you're TTC.

  • Both times I got PG with PreSeed within a few months of using it. Also... it's seriously the best lube out there, IMO. A little TMI, but I like that it was inside you and not outside making a mess.

OB said, when we were having TTTC, to immediately stop using anything OTHER than a labeled sperm friendly lubricant. Either go without. Or get some Pre-Seed.

  • I'm surprised to see so many people say they hated PreSeed. DH and I had no issues with it. It felt more like a natural lubricant and I didn't think I was going to slip right off and onto the floor.

DH said he would use it if we need to...he just didn't like it as much as KY.  Personally, I couldn't really tell a difference.  I bought the external one though.  I was a little freaked out by the internal application.

  • This might sound weird but the best "lube" I have ever used is pure organic extra-virgin coconut oil!  It smells good, tastes good, works amazingly well, and it helps prevent yeast infection. Not to mention it is way cheaper then any conventional lube.  I have no idea if it helps with pregnancy but it is what we used the day we conceived and we weren't even trying ;)

    Good Luck!

We are just in our first month trying so we aren't necessarily having trouble yet.  I do want to make sure we have the best odds though.  Unfortunately going without isn't an option!

It's a pretty close poll so far though.  Right now the regular lube is beating out the Pre Seed...

  • We used a massage oil that can double as a lubricant because it's much thinner and watery. It does not have spermicide in it either.  I would say use spit if you can, that is the best. But, we were doing quickies and wanted to get going right away. Hope this helps

I think it really depends on your personal situation! We used regular Astroglide until it was about 10 months and 1 loss into our TTC journey the first time. I didn't seek advice from my OB until that far into the game and that's when he mentioned the PreSeed. Seems it was the missing ingredient for us each time.

  • I can't believe how close the results of this poll are.  I am actually quite suprised.  I think based on the info here what we will do is use regular lube when not in my fertile window and the Pre Seed when I am.  I did already buy it so I might as well use it.  Thank you to everyone that answered!
