VBAC

VBAC friendly C section tips?

I'm guessing I have a 60% chance of a C section due to age, weight, geography, etc.  This will be my second to last baby, but if I end up with a C, I want to try for a VBAC on #3.

So - beside the low transverse scar and the double layer cut (how does that make a VBAC easier anyway?) what else should I specify on my "in case of C section" part of my birth plan?

Re: VBAC friendly C section tips?

  • I believe double layer sutures are associated with a slightly lower risk of uterine rupture.

Have you considered hiring a doula to increase your chance of a VBAC this time? Have you found a  supportive OB or midwife who is willing to let you go past your "due" date?   I know those aren't birth plan bullet points, but they are important factors that have an impact now and later. Good luck!

  • Whoah---none of these reasons sound like reasons to have a c-section.  Why do you think your chances are that high?

This. I think in your case finding a vaginal birth friendly provider would be step #1.
