When will you wash LO's clothes?

I have only washed two blankets for her so far which happen to be my old baby blankets. When are you planning on washing all of his/her clothes? Are you washing them one size at a time? Are you leaving certain items in case you might return them?

Re: When will you wash LO's clothes?

  • I separated the clothes we have for her so far a couple of days ago.  I put the bigger sizes (6,9,12 months) in a rubbermaid container in her closet and just washed the newborn and 0-3 stuff for now.  I'll do the same for whatever clothes we may get at my shower.

I have only bought clothes for the first few weeks, and will wash the ones I plan to take to the hospital with me (where I live, you have to bring all their clothes...6-8 onsies, 6-8 sleepsuits, a few hats, etc).

We got a lot of 2nd hand stuff (team green so didn't get but a few articles of clothing for our first shower) - and I have washed it all. I am sure I wouldn't have had to (as they were probably washed before giving them to my mother in law) but I did that before hanging or putting anyting in the dresser :)

  • Already done!  Except for the stuff I just got in the mail from my mother yesterday.

I did it as soon as I could so that I could put them away and not have to think about it again until they're used.

  • I started washing blankets and some items last night. We are getting alot of clothes from friends so I am not worried about having to return them to a store. I will probably wash in stages.

  • We don't have much yet, but I already washed what we have. We bought the bedding and because we're Team Green, a small amount of clothes, all used. We also bought th bouncer used. So between all that, and the few newborn and 0-3 onsies and 2 sleepers we have, oh and the 4 a+a swaddle blankets I bought, I had a washer full. The bedding is now in the crib all set up, and everything else is in the dresser drawers. I will still have to do my CD prep laundry, and see what we get at our shower this weekend that will need to be washed. I'm holding off on clothes though just because there's like 3-4 outits I see over and over in the stores that are gender neutral. I figure a Target or Carter's trip after LO arrives to stock up on all the blue or pink sleepers and onsies will have to be in order and then of course more laundry.

  • I have washed all the towels, wash clothes, and clothes that are newborn to 3 months that I have so far. i have also washed all onesies and pajamas that I have. I have my baby shower on Sunday so I am sure after that I will have more things to wash. Its fun doing baby laundry. I have also washed some blankets too. I am a very impatient person and just couldn't wait any longer :)

  • All the used/clearance stuff I've already washed.  The new stuff with tags I'll wait to see if he'll actually get around to wearing it.  That way, if he doesn't, then it'll sell for more at consignment with the tags.
  • I need to sort and go through the kids' clothes. Just add it to my list.

  • I'm washing things as I get enough to make a load...that way it's not overwhelming. :-) I just sort the sizes as I put them away. I am washing all his clothes before he wears them.

  • Already got them washed and put away. I was tired of them sitting in the box I had put them in, and figured if I was going to put them in the dresser might as well get them washed first.

  • Next month some time, probably around mid July.

This was me. I just labeled the draws with the size in that draw (NB, 0-3, 3-6, etc.) plus then as I want to buy more outfits I just open the draw to see what I already have enough of and what I think I'll need more of.

  • I will probably wash them all a few weeks before I am due. I will wash everything season and size appropriate for the time being (NB, 0-3).

I did this last time around and it really helped. Some clothes my DS never got around to wearing so it was really nice to be able to exchange them for the next size up.

  • I'd probably have already washed everything if I'd bought some baby safe detergent already, but I keep forgetting to pick some up!

I know I'm going to wait and wash the gender-specific outfits until after LO is born. I don't wanna waste time and detergent washing a bunch of pink stuff, then not even using it.

But I'd like to already have the car seat cover, blankets, gender-neutral newborn outfits, burp cloths, etc washed and ready to go just in case.

  • We're team green and this is our third so nobody has bought us any clothes.  We have 12 neutral newborn onsies, and 2 sleepers.  The rest of the clothes I have boxed up are DDs old clothes, so if we have a girl, I'll wash them then, and if it's a boy we'll make it to the store for more boyish outfits sometime during the first few days.

I'm washing the few newborn clothes we have this week along with the swaddling blankets and the waterproof pads.  I'll have to prep the cloth diapers, but I'll probably save that so I have something to do while I'm in labor.

  • Not washing until a month from due date... even if I washed them them now, I'd end up doing it again so they smelled fresh, so I'm cutting out the extra work now

We'll wash the news stuff we got DS2 as well as DS1's stuff that he'll inherit in a few weeks. We moved a few months ago so I have to find the box DS1's NB and 0-3 stuff is in.

  • About 98% of my son's clothes are hand-me-downs so I went ahead and spent the ~4 hours~ sorting (by whites, darks, & lights), washing, drying, sorting (by size), and folding/hanging everything. I still have 2 more showers so I'm sure I'll probably get a few more outfits/blankets/etc. Once all of my showers & shopping is done, I'll wash the rest of it. I just wanted to get the bulk of it done now while I still have the time and energy!
