Babies: 3 - 6 Months

To Bumbo or not to bumbo???

I would love to hear every ones thoughts on this.  I don't have one and I really don't have an opinion on them.  I've looked up info on them.  Some love them...some hate them.  I am really torn.

Can you share your experience and opinions on the bumbo? PLEASE!

TIA!!

Re: To Bumbo or not to bumbo???

  • We got DS one and he seems to like it. Some babies are hit or miss... I would try and find one cheaper then the ones in the stores so your not out $40.00.  The only problem I have is DS's butt gets stuck in it when trying to get him out.  If you do get one, I wouldn't invest in the bumbo cover, DS doesn't fit in it well what that on. If you want a cover, I can send you mine to have.

  • My LO has always liked sitting so we got a Bumbo a couple of wks ago.  She doesn't love it, but doesn't hate it either.  She is only 3 months, so she is still a little young.  She holds her head up in it fine, but we only put her in it for a few minutes at time.

My issue with it is her fat little legs get stuck when I take her out.  Like I said, she is actually under the suggested age, so I can't imagine how tight it will be when she is older.

  • DD loves her Bumbo. She is pretty nosey and likes to sit up and look around. We got ours as a gift & my Grandma paid $40 bucks but I would advise to go to "Once Upon a Child" because they have them for $20 bucks that way if your LO does not like it your only out $20. GL!

  • DD loves the Bumbo and has been using she turned 2 months (pedi recommendation). At first she could only be in it several minutes and then it'd wear her out. She loves being in it and can easily chill in it for 30 minutes. We've also started using the tray ? so she can play with her toys. (And it's also great for taking photos).

I know CL also seems to have them at decent prices.

  • Eh, we didn't really use it.  It was nice around 2-3 months when I could put E in it and put some toys on the tray, but we only did that occasionally.  E has really chubby legs, so by 3 months, his little legs would get stuck so we stopped using it.  Now E sits unassisted for very long periods of time, so we don't even miss it.  We got ours as a baby shower gift, so I didn't spend money, but hindsight is 20/20 and I probably would not register for one again.

  • Ian really likes the Bumbo.  He's a nosie baby and this allows him to really see what's going on around him.  He likes the exersaucer too.  My only issue with the Bumbo is this...I think if they are allowed to sit in them too much, and never sat anywhere else as they get older, it can hinder them being able to sit on their own.  Yes, they're very convenient!  And would say the same for an exersaucer or walker, or any other type of seat that completely supports them while sitting or standing...they never have to work or learn to sit or stand on their own.  I have a friend who's little one L O V E D sitting in the Bumbo and his walker.  He'd sit in it them for hours.  At almost 9 months old, he could barely sit on his own...because he was so use to being supported by the Bumbo or walker.  So, I think they're great, and use one myself, but think it along with other such things should be used in moderation.

  • We have one and Charlie really likes it. I like it because it is so small and lightweight I can move it all around the house with me. I put him in it in the bathroom while I am getting ready in the morning, then we move to my room while I finish getting dressed.  I definitely say only use it on the ground because it looks like it could flip easily. I put it on my bed- but in the middle.  I would also get the tray that goes with it. I just bought a few of those toys with a suction cup on the bottom and I put them on the tray and Charlie loves it.

Worth the money in my opinion.

  • We like ours but LO doesn't last too long in it. Lately I've been putting him in it during feeding time with a bottle but he only lasts about half the time. And now that we are starting him on solids and don't have a high chair yet it is very useful. It seems to be a good step before transitioning into the high chair. I think it's worth it.

  • I freaking LOVE Bumbo!!!! Put that sucker in the shopping cart and stack groceries or whatever around baby and she is in HEAVEN and soooo well behaved. Sit it on the table or in the booth at a restaurant where she can see everything going on and you get to eat a meal in peace! I don't use it at home very much because she gets bored and fussy but I take it everywhere with me and it gets plenty of use. TOTALLY worth the money!
  • I think the bumbo is great as long as you are safe and doesn't overuse it.

  • I love it, it's great to put LO in when I'm cleaning or cooking. I also have the tray so I can use if for feeding...or toys!

  • Love it!  We mostly use it at the kitchen table and have her join us for meals which she loves watching us eat and 'talking' to us and we sometimes use it while we prep dinner, again, she loves talking and watching what we are doing.  Totally worth the money, although we are borrowing ours.  My LO never used her bouncer or swing though so I don't know that I'd buy those, ever baby is different.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • DS loves it because he always wants to sit.  It also has improved his neck strength/head control immensely.  Before the Bumbo he was not pushing up during tummy time, and now he only pushes up. I saw a lot of them at the consignment store by us, so I would not purchase full price.
  • It's pretty handy, especially for feeding solids or if we go to a picnic or something where there's no high chair.  His chunky legs do get stuck, but I'm a pro at getting them out while holding him with one hand.  We borrowed my sister's, but if I got my own I would look for one at a consignment store or get a knock-off.

  • I wasn't sure so I bought one on craigslist for $10!  Then I don't feel so bad if she doesn't like it.
  • We don't use ours often.  For about a month or so it came in handy but now DD is able to sit with very little help (just a boppy around her is enough now).  I'm about to put the Bumbo up in the closet.  I may end up selling it before we even have our next kid.

My little guy likes his bumbo. We only used it a little at first. He will probably grow out of it soon, but he likes it so I don't mind the 20 I spent on it (consignment sale price).

  • My BFF gave me the one her son used, I purchase a cover and a table attachment.  I like that it helps him hold his back/head up.. DS isn't a fan, but he doesnt cry or anything. He is a little chunky and his butt gets stuck in it when we pull him out. ...oh and his legs do not fit well either.

  • I got my daughter one when she was about 3 months. You kinda have to hold it down to get them out, but it's not as bad as it sounds. My daughter sat it in for a few minutes, then looked at me as if to say "Ok, can you get me out of here now?"

I would probably suggest trying it out at the store before you spend the money.

  • DD#1 hated it, DD #2 loves it. Go figure!

  • Well my sister bought one for my nephew, and he hated it, she took it back the next day. Lol. I was thinking about getting one and my friend actually gave one to us and Jude loves it! Do you have someone who has one so you can sit your LO in it and see if they like it before you buy one? If LO likes it I think it'd be a good investment!
