Even though Samantha is in the top 10 on the SSA list I don't know any baby Samanthas. I really like this name!!
I love the name Samantha! Unlike most people on this board, I like boy names on girls, but I do prefer the boy name to be a nn for a longer more feminine name. And Samantha fits the bill perfectly.
It's NMS at all. That said, it's not a bad name. It's recognizable, spelled right, gender appropriate and everyone can say it! So it does get my vote. It's cute, just not for me.
Dated doesn't bother me...I'm pretty sure someone will make that arguement about every name so it's not something I worry about.
I will say though for some reason in my area this name is super popular. I know 4 Samanthas under the age of 5. I'm pretty sure it isn't anywhere else though...I don't know why it's the trend train here.
Re: Samantha

I really like it...I associate it with the classy American Girl.
I think some people consider it dated though, because it hit its peak in the 90s.
