Cloth Diapering

yeast

ok, I've skimmed the last couple of pages and didn't find a post on this, even though i'm sure it gets asked a lot. sorry!

So the doc said DD had yeast, so I'm assuming that it's in my diapers, right? So how do you all get rid of it? I feel like I've had so many rash issues with the diapers lately...I'm about the throw in the towel and just use disposables. (although my pocket book tells me otherwise....)

So how do I treat it? Bleach? Blue dawn? I have both and have used both in the past.

Re: yeast

  • Yeah it's in the diapers and if you keep using them you'll reinfect her. That's what we're currently dealing with. It sucks. LO is in sposies and using his Nystatin cream until he's completely clear plus some... I've stripped my diapers/wipes/wetbags/etc. with Dawn AND bleached it all AND used 25 drops of GSE in one of the rinses. If that doesn't kill it all, then I don't know what will! The true test will come when he's out of sposies and I pop CDs back on him. I pray that it works. He's been dealing with a rash for 2 months and I can't wait until his bottom is clear!

  • I am in the same boat.  We have been battling yeast for a long time 4 to 5 months.  It will go away and then LO begins to cut another tooth and bam! a yeast rash.  I use fleece liners with every diaper change and decided yesterday we are throwing those all away and starting new.  I also bleached my dipes and used  tea tree oil in my wash as well.  They are on the line sunning right now.

I tried doing disposables for some time and it didn't seem to matter for us.  The rash did go away for about 2 weeks so I have hope.  I also contacted a dr. and we are changing creams again.  WE have tried econazole and nystatin.  We will see.  Good luck.

  • Turn up your hot water heater to 122F or a bit higher.  Wash with 1/4 bleach to kill the yeast, and add 20 or so drops of Tea Tree Oil and 20 drops or so of Grapefruit seed extract to the prewash to kill the spores.  I continued to use cloth diapers during our battle with yeast and used this routine every wash while using nystatin cream,  I used a fleece liner when I used the nystatin cream since you only use it 3 times a day.  Her yeast rash was gone within a week.

This is the routine I've successfully used to kill the yeast in my diapers as well. If you do this and you still have it show up again. Do this routine, and then strip your diapers with RLR to remove any possible build up that could be holding on to the yeast. With out last bout of really stubborn yeast we had to do the RLR strip, and ::knock on wood:: it hasn't returned, and DD has had some horrible teething diaper rashes that would normally turn to yeast.
