Meh. Last week there was a study posted that said the kids of women who had occasional drinks during pregnancy actually did better than those who didn't. I'm not saying I but that one either, but I certainly don't think a few drinks over a 9 month period (especially after the 1st trimester) is going to do any harm. To each their own though.

Yes, the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome website says there is no safe level of alcohol consumption. I am really more worried about the germs my toddler brings home will do to my unborn child than the amount of alcohol I in my 5 or 10 drinks during pregnancy. If you don't feel comfortable drinking a single, then skip it, not all of us feel that way.
They actually go as far as to say all women of childbearing age abstain!
I also like that they say that alchohol will cause your child all sorts of problems, then go on to say,"The outcomes attributable to prenatal alcohol exposure for the children of women whose alcohol consumption averages seven to 14 drinks per week include deficits in growth, behavior, and neurocognition such as problems in arithmetic, language and memory; visual-spatial abilities; attention; and deficits in speed of information processing. Patterns of exposure known to place a fetus at greatest risk include binge drinking, defined as having five or more drinks at one time, and drinking seven or more drinks per week."
Yes, that is 7 to 14 drinks per WEEK, not per pregnancy.

Ha! Yeah, that's gonna happen. I think you have to be pretty ridiculous about it to actually cause any problems. I mean, drinking every day while pregnant? Who does that? I feel sorry for the researchers on that one. Imagine the kind of people they got to deal with.

This is an issue each pregnant lady has to make her own decision. ?My doc okay'ed a 4oz glass of red wine on Thanksgiving and Christmas. ?Those will be my only drinks and Im okay with that. ?I respect each persons decision. ?Like a PP said, If you are not comfortable with it, dont do it. ?But dont judge those who do. ?
I also think they are overzealous. They should really focus thir efforts on getting help for the kind of woman who has a bottle of Stoli under the drivers seat in her car. Let the rest of the pg women have their glass of wine.
I think many pg women are feeling too sick to drink alcohol anyway. The idea of it makes my stomach lurch.
