Quick: flying domestic with DD, need ID? UPDATED

We are flying today (not leaving the US). Does DD need ID? She has a passport, but I'd rather not have to bring it.

  • You may need something to prove her age. Since O doesn't have a passport we brought a copy of her birth certificate.

Thank you! Perhaps I should've thought about this earlier than a half hour before we leave Stick out tongue

  • They asked us for a birth certificate on both flights.
  • We flew Virgin America and didn't need anything. Some require proof of age. Since you're not sure, I'd take a copy of the birth certificate to be safe.

  • I was not asked for any form of ID for DD in April or May when we flew on both Frontier and United Airlines. I did bring along a copy of her birth certificate, just in case, although I did call ahead of time and confirm with them that nothing was necessary. I'm just paranoid, I guess!

  • Ah I'm way too late, I just noticed the time of this post, but it is airline dependent. We've flown 15 times domestically. Southwest is the most obnoxious (compared to Airtran, Delta, UsAir, and United). They need it to prove under two if you don't have a seat for them. The other airlines use their brains to see she is nowhere near two. Southwest almost didn't let me fly.

I've flown 3 times with DD - most recently last month...but always on United and was never asked for ID. I guess better safe than sorry though!

  • Update: I flew United, and they made me swipe her passport! So weird. I wonder what would've happened if I hadn't brought it.

  • I've flown a handful of times with DS and DD and only was asked once (probably by Southwest) for the birth certificate. I keep the copies just in case. They won't ask for DS anymore since he gets his own seat now and DD is clearly under 2.
    This is my AE.
