What do you think of Bodhi?

I don't know if I'd be brave enough to use it but I kind of like it. I like the meaning, it's a Buddhist term that means enlightenment or awakening and I think it might go well with DDs name, Serena. We arent buddhist or indian or anything though. Is this name too hippyish or ethnic to be a mainstream name?

Re: What do you think of Bodhi?

  • I think it is too hippy/ethnic.  If I met a Bodhi who wasn't Indian I would assume his parents were Buddhist hippy commune dwellers.

  • My mind immediately went to Bode Miller. While the origin and spelling is different, I think that is the pronounciation, which would make me feel like you're trying too hard to be unique if I didn't know the real story . . . which most people won't.
  • I like Bodhi, but in a GP kind of way. It's definitely not mainstream. Plenty of names have positive meanings. How about Asher? It means "happiness" and sounds nice with Serena.

  • I think of Patrick Swayze in Point Break.

  • Bodhi came up for us last year when we were team green too.  I like the way it sounds all right, but hate the spelling (all versions!).  I think it's almost too "cutesy" for a grown man, but I think it would sound sweet coming out of the mouth of a 3-4 year old little boy answering what his name is.

  • I know of a little Boden nn Bodie.  It's the same feel but not as ethnic-sounding.
  • It's okay as a name, but if you don't have any connection to the culture, I would probably reconsider. There are a lot of really Italian (read: not mainstream) names I like, but since I have a Swedish last name and have no connection to the culture, I don't think I'll be using them.

  • I really do not like this name, but it has nothing to do with the connotations or meaning. I just think it has a criminally ugly sound.

  • Thank you, I think it's safe to say ill be crossing this one off my list.
