When to move to the convertable...

OK... I am torn.  Its getting to be kind of a pain to get DD in and out of the Chicco... BUT... I am dutch (read:cheap) and want to get all my moneys worth... which means TWO more inches.  I can't decide if I should switch her or not... wwyd...

  • Switch her now.  She'll be more comfortable.  Isn't the carrier getting hard to carry?

  • You'd be surprised at how strong I have gotten... lol... she's 22 pounds...

  • Wow - you are strong.  I switched mine at 7 months when they were about 18 lbs.  I just couldn't handle carrying two!

  • I'm in the same position...DD is 2 inches from growing out of our infant seat. I wanted to keep her in it through this trip to my parents' for ease of traveling, but I will probably cave and switch her to the convertible after we return home.
  • I bought the Evenflo Triumph for my car which Ds rides in more often.  He still has an inch of growth in his Graco Safeseat so it is in DH's car.  We have been using it stationary anyway.  So this way I know I love the new seat and got to use the infant seat longer.  I do need to buy a second convertible seat soon though.

  • Definitely switch her now. She probably needs more room. I switched Quentin at 6 months because he is so tall.
  • I moved DS at 10 months.  At 8 months he was hard to carry in the seat but at 10 months it was almost impossible.
  • doesn't the chicco only go to 20 lbs? Or is it 20 inches? Unless you have the keyfit 30..

anyway, we switched DD out at 7 months and she's much more comfortable in the convertible.. and it's surprisingly easier to get her in/out of too! :)

I couldn't imagine lifting a carrier with a 30lb baby in it! Quentin is 21.5 lbs, and I had to stop. It was killing my back.

  • Well, we already know that you have at least one Britax from Targetgate, I don't understand how you're being more thrifty by keeping your DC in a infant carrier for longer in order to avoid using a convertible you already own.

  • We had to switch at 6 months.  The straps on our infant carrier were to tight.  She seems much more comfortable in her big girl car seat.

Well, its cause I am cheap!  I paid, what I consider, to be a ton on her Chicco and want to get my moneys worth.  I suppose I have already done that!  And really... does it matter WHERE or HOW or HOW MUCH I spend on her convertable?

I'm with lvisser on this one. I'm just impressed you got your Targetgate Britax!
Liv will be too tall for her infant seat in about an inch and a half, and we're looking into convertibles too, but I have the same "wanna get my money's worth" attitude and just can't make myself buy one yet.

  • We're not talking about delaying the purchase of a new convertible seat for as long as possible.  Your child is going to grow out of the convertible seat that you already own at some already determined but not yet known point.  Using the infant carrier for longer than what is comfortable for you or baby is not going to change that expiration date, so you aren't getting more for your money by delaying the switch.

  • DS has been out of his infant carrier since he was 4.5 months old.  He could still fit in the infant seat now, but he was just so scrunched.  He HATED it and freaked whenever we put him in it.  Once we started using the convertible seat, he was so much more comfortable and relaxed in the car.

  • I just continue to find it amusing that people think that you HAVE to carry your baby just b/c you are still using the infant seat.. just leave it in the car and treat it like a convertible.Wink
