help me prove DH wrong!

Hubby likes to hold LO by the arms and dangle him.  This makes me cringe and I know it's not good for his shoulders, and I always get the "Oh, he's fine. See?"  from DH when I express my concern.  Help me find a good, valid article on why parents shouldn't do this, because DH won't listen to me.

  • Yeah, I don't have an article, but I have a sister and three nieces who've all had their arms pulled out of their sockets when they were infants by someone playing with them that way.

  • I will add that my sister is a physical therapist and they talked about this exact thing in her class on young children as being a common problem that they would deal with.

If you do this by holding them at the shoulders, with your arms cupped in their armpits, then you are fine because that's supporting their joint.

I don't even often dangle my 2 year old from her hands though.  There have been times when it happens, but I try not to.  My brother had his shoulder dislocated so many times that my mom learned how to pop it back into place herself because the trip to town to see the doctor took too long for the 2 seconds it takes to pop it back in.  We never had any elbow issues that the article linked above talks about, but I would imagine that the shoulder issues would be just as bad.
