Is this normal? BM intake

Avery is now over a year old. She eats three solid meals a day with one or two snacks usually. But she is still drinking on the upwards of 32 oz of breast milk a day. She had 31oz today and 30 oz yesterday. Is this still normal????

Some days she eats a decent amount of solid foods at each sitting and taking BM. I was just wondering if this is normal?

  • We're ff but Ty is the same way. It's actually the main reason I'm nervous to wean to wcm in a few weeks. I'm afraid he won't be getting enough calories.

I am glad to know we aren't the only ones. We go to the Pedi Thursday and I plan on asking if this is normal then.

  • LO only likes her BM from the tap (she's picky that way), but she hasn't decreased her feedings at all, so my guess is she's taking in a large number of oz. I don't think it's usual, but I don't think it's wrong, either.

I think Brynn has hit a growth spurt because though she BF's and I can't count, she has upped her BM intake as well as her solids recently. Perhaps there's a 12 month growth spurt that they are all starting to hit??

  • FF here too and still taking in a large amount of formula.  I would guess 28 oz+ a day AND she's still waking at least once in the early morning for a 4-5 oz bottle which is really getting to me.  I keep trying to push her through until morning but she won't have it.  She's not a big fan of her formula in the sippy (though she uses them fine for water and occasional juice) so I am thinking that once we hit the 12 month mark, I am going to only offer it to her in the sippy and see if that decreases the nighttime feed...actually, while writing this, its making me think that maybe I should offer her the nighttime bottle in a sippy and see if that frustrates her enough to get her to stop since I know she's getting enough during the day anyway.

  • sounds normal to me, especially based on my experiences with dd1, who continued drinking large amounts of BM until i got pregnant with dd2 and my supply plummeted.  only then did she start getting the majority of her calories from solid food.

  • I BF straight from the tap, so I don't know how much breast milk DD consumes. However, she still BFs quite often during the day, despite eating solids 3 times a day now.
