Still. Pregnant. <scream>

Thanks, Shawna, for the update... since I am home for the night, I can give the next one (can't Bump from my iPhone - does anyone know why that is?!)

OK, sorry in advance this is so long.

Anyway, yes the baby is still pretty high and she moved (didn't really "flip") back to head down/center from oblique. Last week when we went for the c-section, they did the ultrasound first so I didn't get the IV or fluids or anything like that. Today, we were positive it was a sure thing, even if she was head down, since the OB yesterday said that this was happening too often and my cervix was unfavorable for induction. So this morning, they did EVERYTHING (except the spinal, obviously, that gets done in the OR like the other posters said), including trying to stick me in my hands with the IV and failing (ouch, that freaking needle is HUGE!) and causing me to bleed onto the bed & floor LOL!

The OB came in and did the ultrasound and said we'd start inducing. I lost it. Starting crying like a baby. I said I couldn't take it anymore and why weren't they just going to do it anyway since my OB yesterday said she was still very high and my cervix was unfavorable for induction. The OB today (large practice so obviously they are not all on the same page) said they didn't want to do the c-section if they didn't have to so they'd like to give my body a try to go into labor. I get it, I do, but I was still not dilated, cervix still unfavorable for the most part (she said it was "open in the front" and I honestly have no idea what that means nor do I even care at this point haha).

She gave me two options - Prepidil, which they give you in the hospital and let you go home or approximately 24 hours before continuing with the induction as needed in the hospital... or... I think it was called Miso (spell), which they give you every 4 hours in the hospital as needed. Both are meant to soften the cervix before proceeding accordingly. If the cervix softens, they can do a Foley bulb (I think?) which inflates to help dilate you to about 3cm or depending on what happens, the can just start Pitocin. Of course, there is always a chance of all these things failing or not working or the baby flipping again, etc. These things could all end in a c-section anyway. Worst case, I'd be having one by Friday probably. Best case, I'll deliver vaginally and sooner rather than later. They said to be prepared for "days." Not excited about that, but what can we do.

Then I had a rough time asking the doctor some questions about my anxieties in regards to meconium, overdue babies, etc. She wasn't available to do the Prepidil and therefore CALLED ME on the phone from a lull in a surgery she was in (in the same hospital) and when I asked her my questions, she said she felt like I was too anxious to be sent home and she wouldn't be releasing me. I freaked out because I had JUST gotten the Prepidil, which meant I would be staying in the hospital for no effing reason for the night. She finally came down before I was supposed to be released (actually, after, we had to wait) and stopped them from releasing me and again, I was in tears - like hystericaly - and pleading to be released. Finally, she let me go. There was no medical reason to keep me. She was insisting that at least at the hospital, I'd be reassured that the baby was OK. I get it... but at the same time, my husband and I were exhausted and needed some sleeping to prepare for the probably long road ahead.

I love my doctor's office, but considering switching after this baby. No one is on the same page and I am suffering for it, I believe... not that it's their fault for all the flips, c-sections, etc, but one doctor says one thing, a MW says something else, another doctor says another thing. It just blows.

I'll be 11 days overdue tomorrow. If you could just send some good vibes that whatever is going to happen happens SOON and safely for my daughter and for me. Thanks, guys!!

  • I can only imagine how frustrating/upsetting/anxiety producing all this ordeal is.  I hope that the baby decides that she wants to make her appearance and your induction works out or that your dr's office finally decides to let you have a c-section.  GL and hopefully you'll be holding your LO in the next few days.

  • I think you are definitely having the hardest time here at the end :(

I had an unripe and highly unfavorable cervix, and responded very well to the progesterone they gave me (I'm assuming that's what prepidil (sp?) is?) and ended up with a vaginal delivery. You must be losing it but I bet you'll be happy if you get to have a vaginal delivery in the end and not have to go through all that super painful recovery.

Truly before you know it this will all be over and just be a story you can enjoy scaring pregnant women with!!

Thinking good thoughts for you the next couple of days.  I hope everything works out how you want it to.  And yes now you will have every right of being that lady who tells the birth story to FTMs and scaring the crap out of them.  :)  I had the same thing happen with my IV and it ended up in a HUGE bruise.  Everytime a new nurse came on shift they freaked out and asked what happened.  I was like you guys did this to me.  LOL.  Hang in there, I know easier said than done.

  • Wow, how frustrating. I would have been screaming at these people. I was also terrified of menconium, it seems like that lady could have cared less what you had to say, I would defiantly be looking for a new practice for the next baby.

I can't even imagine what your going through, me and Jace send you lots of good vibes that Julia arrives safely and sooner rather than later.

Good luck I can't wait for you to hold her in your arms after that none of this will even matter.

Sending you tons of good vibes. You've waited so long, it's your turn! (I was due the day before you and have a 16-day old, so, like I said... Your turn!) Wishing you all the best for the smoothest possible delivery.
After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!
