give me some zantac success stoires

LO has been a TERRIBLE sleeper for a while now- we went in for his 4 month checkup today and his pedi prescribed Zantac for possible reflux. I'm wondering what other peoples experiences are with it? Did it help? How long until you noticed a differnce? Right now I'd sell my soul for a couple of hours of uninterupted sleep!

  • Been on it and cereal for 3 amazing weeks! Life has been wonderful using it

  • It works great for DD1. She's been on it since she was 4 months old. Unfortunately she hasn't outgrown her reflux. Zantac didn't work for DD2, but Prilosec has worked wonders for her. It can take a week or two to see if the Zantac works or not.

  • LOHas been on it since she was 4 weeks old, and it worked great. However, this past week she has become increasingly fussy during her feedings. She had her 2 month appointment the other day, and the pedi increased her dosage, so she's doing better. I guess Zantac is very weight sensitive, so your LO gaining weight can alter its effectiveness.
  • Ds went on Zantac at 7 weeks. It helped his discomfort right away. But the spitting up didn't subside for a while. Neither did the night wakings. It has gotten a lot better in the past month for sure. I pulled him from his crib at 8 weeks b/c he would spit up every time I laid him flat. He just graduated from the rnp last week and is doing great now. Hang in there! I hope it gets better for you both.

If you BF, consider cutting out dairy and soy (esp if you see green poop on a regular basis). DD was prescribed zantac, but we were able to wean her off of it once I had been dairy and soy free for a few weeks. Also, I know LO may be getting a bit old for this, but the rock n play works wonders for a lot of people.

  • It worked wonders with my son, who has been on it since he was 4 weeks old.  Yes, it does have to be adjusted as they gain weight, but that's not a big deal...it works!  I saw a bit of a difference within a few days and by a week on it a huge difference.  He has begun spitting up a lot again, but he's not in pain from it any longer and his dose is adequate for his weight and while that's not ideal, the main thing is that he's gaining like a champ and he's not in pain, which means the reflux isn't causing damage to his esophagus.

My first was on Prevacid, which also worked just not as well, but she would fight taking it, spit it out, etc. (which my second did at first with the Zantac, but he got over that and now he actually reaches for the medicine syringe and puts it in his mouth himself).

  • DD was put on Zantac at 4mths. We noticed a difference immediately. I just stopped giving it to her this past Sunday and she has been fine. I tried taking her off of it about a month ago and it was a big fail.

  • We have been on Zantac for about 3 months and it works great. However it is very weight dependent meaning as soon as LO gains weight her dosage needs to be increased asap or she starts having issues again.
