i'm desperate to figure out this connect, so wondering if any other mom's have seen this before.
my 18 month old does great with whole milk. he does great with whole milk yogurt, like Yo Baby. he's had the whole milk and the low fat milk Gerber yogurts (the kind that are on the shelf - not refrigerated) and has had the low fat milk GoGurts. it seem anytime he has the Gerber or GoGurt, he gets a FLAMING diaper rash within a day or two, so I know it's something contained in these. however, when i review the ingredients, nothing is consistent so that I can identify what it is. i'm fine to just not give him either of these now, but i sure would like to know what kind of sensitivity is in there so i can avoid it in other products.
anyone experience anything similar? any suggestions?
Re: yogurt allergy, but is ok with milk???
Abigail can't have any dairy at all, so I dunno.
I would think it would be something besides the dairy if he can drink milk and be fine.
Could it be aspartame? (Not sure if either of the ones you mentioned contain that or not). I am allergic to aspartame, and I have to be careful which yogurts I get because some of them have it. I think most people don't even realize that you can have sensitivity to aspartame because it is such a common ingredient.
I know that the opposite was true with my friend's daughter. The only yogurt that her system would handle was the shelf stable gerber stuff.
Maybe it's just something in the yogurt making process?
I'm the opposite, I can't handle whole milk, soft cheeses or whole cream ice cream (terrible I know!) but I can eat the heck out of yogurt or hard cheeses.
My dr said partial lactose intolerance... its the way its processed and everyone's body reacts differently. I also didn't start this intolerance right away, I was young but not a baby or toddler. Good luck.
This, and also raspberry. One of my girls would flame up to either for quite some time.
We fed our DD Gerber yogurt exclusively and had the same thing happen. She loved Pear flavored. We stopped giving yogurt totally and no rash ever came back. She's also allergic to amoxicillin so we asked the Dr today if it could be something with the cultures. She said it didn't make any sense to be allergic to yogurt and not milk. <sigh>
I think I'll try a little of another brand and see if there's a reaction. Maybe it's just the Gerber product.
