Who's LO has a really early bedtime?

I've been noticing that my LO has been sleeping really long during her third nap of the day. I've been putting her down around 4:45-5pm and someitmes she won't wake up until 7:30. Even then, she's still tired, but needing food or something. She gets really angry when I take her downstairs.

Last night, she "napped"  from 4:45 to 7:30, woke up grumpy, and was back asleep by 8:10 after a bottle and a bath.

Tonight I skipped the late nap and kept her up until 6:15 when I put her to bed for the night. I'm wondering if this is a huge mistake, but I'm really just trying to take her lead for the most part.

Anyone else have a LO that goes to bed before 7?

  • Both kids are down between 4:30 and 5:30. We watch for their cues and then get them down. They have always been early risers, no matter how late they stay up. Dd is up around 5:45 and ds around 6:30. He sleeps 13-15 hours a night and she is out for 12-14, with one wake up sometimes. We tried keeping them up until 7 and it is just miserable for them. Dh and I are both early to bed people also.

  • I was seriously just coming on here to post an almost identical question! Lo has been wanting to 'nap' around 630-7 every evening for the past few days. He wakes up around 8 for a bottle and then is ready to go down for the night. I've just been letting him run the show, even though its a drastic change from never going to bed until 915 on the dot every night to up his own bedtime by over 2 hours. He's still waking up at his usual 730-8 am so I guess it works. But we are all 'late to bed' ppl, so its a big change in schedule for us. Our supper isn't usually until 8 pm, and to think about doing bedtime routine before that is weird to me (my first has always been hard to put to bed and most nights 10 pm is as early as we can wrangle him down!). But I guess we will adjust!

  • E is usually in bed asleep between 715-730pm.  He is getting 3+ hrs of naps a day between 2-3 naps.  If he needs a third nap, he usually sleeps until 4-430, so those nights he goes down a little later.  I would say it sounds like your LO is giving you cues about an earlier bedtime.  We were at bed about an hr earlier because E wasn't napping well (1-1.5 hrs max) during the day and he became a crankasaurus by 6pm.  The first four hours of his sleep were miserable (waking up every 20-40min), so we moved his bedtime back a little and really focused on getting his daytime sleep in.  We are about a week and a half in, nights are much better, but he has had a day or two that he has slept less than 2 hrs in naps, and those nights are rough.

  • DD sleeps from 7 PM-6/7AM. We have had a few occasions of her passing out after daycare (5PM). Usually if she goes down early she'll need to eat around midnight, though. If she isn't too grumpy, I'd keep trying to skip the late nap and put her down around 6... that will increase your chances of STTN!
