It's getting close to my due date (YAY!) and I am having a water birth. I was wondering if any second time mom's or third, fourth, etc mom's have had a water birth or anyone who has had a family member or a friend have a water birth and their experience with it.
I'm in no way going to change my mind on having a water birth (unless I absolutely have to), I just wanted to hear some stories, since home births/water births seem so rare in my state.
Thanks!
Re: Waterbirth stories?
A. was a home waterbirth. I intended to labor in the water. While I wasn't againts pushing/delivering in the water, I didn't think I would want to.
But then I was in labor. By the time the pool was filled, I had wanted to get in for a while. And then I was in the water. And about 10 minutes after I got in I announced that it was time to push. I had no desire to move again so quickly so I just stayed in the water. Pushing only took 15 minutes, so DD was born in the pool.
Looking back, it was amazing. I felt myself relax as I climbed in the pool. I don't think it actually decreased the pain of my horrendous back labor, but it made it easier for me to deal with it. Therefore it was totally worth it!
If/when we have another LO, I would definitely have another waterbirth if possible!
My hospital only has tubs to labor and so I labored in the tub for the last 5 hours, in fact I was comfortable that I waited another 1.5+ hours to push because I just didn't want to get out. So needless to say if I could have had a water birth I would have done it.
There was a girl in my Hypnobirthing class who wasn't really interested in a water birth despite the fact that her hospital did them. But on the big day they told her she could start pushing and she thought to herself, I'm not getting out! So she had an unexpected water birth which I think is awesome!
I delivered and labored in water and it was great. I had a lot of back
Labor so it helped with that. The water gave me such comfort that I fell asleep in between contractions while my husband rubbed my shoulders. Much better than laboring on my bed which I did before.
I had home waterbirths with both of my DDs.
My birth story from my first DD is in my bio.
My second DD was half born in the water. LOL I labored in the tub again, but when her head came out my contractions stalled for a few minutes and my MW decided that we should move to land. After they pulled me out of the tub (I couldn't figure out how to get out with a baby head between my legs LOL), she came right out and was born on the floor next to the birth tub.
As with the first, water was a huge help with labor pains. My second labor was VERY intense and fast and I cannot imagine what it would have been like without the water.
