I work in major gifts for a big non-profit. It's been a wonderful job/career in many ways, but I'm on my 11th campaign and I feel like I just can't take it anymore! So burned out. Love the people I've had the chance to meet and work with, but so tired of the same speeches, same issues, same challenges. There are tons of opportunities in this field, but I just want to take a break!!
Re: Anyone else in fund raising/fund development?
Me (and I'm in WI too!)
I'm in higher education fundraising, but I don't see myself being in Development long term. I came from the corporate world. Same days I see myself going back to a Fortune 100 company, other days I see myself moving into a higher education administration role.
I don't hate my work, but I hate the pay! I finished my MBA, and after the $$ spent on that, I need to go make some more dough.

I do a major fundraiser once a semester and I also work in higher education. It's getting more and more difficult to get people to give. Over the last five years, our numbers went up about 10% and have since dropped to about 70% of our most recent highest total.
The things we have to remember are: difficult economies make it tougher for even the most generous people to give what they used to (it seems like companies are lowering their match ratio too); and though we try our hardest, we can't make people give anything.
I left fundraising/event planning to come back to the corporate side and it's glorious! I lasted 4.5 years and the pressure/sales aspect just got to be too much. I miss the flexibility of non-profit but that's about it.
Not sure I could ever go back now.
