ridiculousness that is insurance

I both chuckled and shook my head that my c-section was being reviewed by the insurance company to validate that it was a medically necessary procedure. The amount of proof they are requesting from the OB's office is ridiculous. I wasn't laboring, had NO amniotic fluid left and the baby was breech and had the cord around her neck twice. Even my auto mechanic wouldn't question the medical necessity of a c-section in this case.

To add to the head shake towards my insurance company: my doc had prescribed two Diflucan pills to help prevent an infection in my incision. They would only fill one pill at a time since it's usually a one-dose med. Not only did I have to request a refill and make another trip to the pharmacy, but the insurance company had to pay two fees to the pharmacy instead of one. Sorry, but I'm taking my meds as my doc prescribed not how you want to save money.

Dopey insurance company. *shaking my head again*

Re: ridiculousness that is insurance

  • ha that is annoying! It's crazy what you have to go through these days to show that something is medically necessary like the safety of your child! Apparently my insurance thinks the only thing that is medically necessary is the child coming out of me...they did not cover any of my NSTs due to high bp and contractions, or cover ultrasounds when I had a placenta abruption...the only thing they covered was my anatomy scan(partially covered) and my birth...gotta love thousand dollar medical bills!

  • My regular insurance (Anthem) doesn't cover a single thing pregnancy related - not even a pregnancy test! So I had to get on Medicaid. Which I am extremely thankful for. Funny thing about that though - a few months ago, they cut my Medicaid coverage down from full to only pregnancy related b/c DH & I make too much money. He works at Walmart.......and I work at McDonald's. Yeah, we're rolling in the dough over here! Lol!
  • Yeah, I always say we're not rich enough to get by and not poor enough to get help...we're screwed.
