2nd Trimester

Will it hurt the baby?

I stabbed my stomach really hard yesterday with a part at work on accident, then last week i ran into the corner of the table really hard. I figured i was ok after the table thing cuz i didnt get any cramping. This time with the part though last night it hurt really bad when i went to move sometimes and i feel like vomiting this morning.....so what do you guys think i have a super hard time calling anybody for help cuz of work?

Re: Will it hurt the baby?

  • how far along are you?  I doubt the blow hurt the baby because they are pretty nestled in there.  If you didn't get any cramping or bleeding I bet you are probably fine.  If you are concerned though give a call to your doc.

  • IMHO, I think that your baby is more important than work so they can suck it if they have a problem with you going to seek help. I fell and landed on my back two weeks ago at 19 weeks and I was a bit worried. I called my OB and the nurse told me that the baby is well protected in there. She did say that if there is trauma to the belly it can be cause for concern but that I should keep an eye out for bleeding or severe cramping. Go ahead and call the doctor and explain what happened and they can advise you on what steps you should take. Better to be safe than sorry! Good luck and keep us posted!

Agreed!  Your health and the health of your baby comes first.  If you are uncomfortable in any way, you should call your OBs office and speak with a nurse.

  • As the PPs have said, I would think your LO is fine but ny doc says they want to see you though if you have any bumps to the belly that cause ongoing pain and/or bruising. If a bump you had last night is still causing pain and you feel like vomiting - for me that's a no-brainer to call the doctor.

  • I would say the combo of sharp trauma to the abdomen and nausea the next day warrants a call to the doctor.  It's probably nothing, but it could be a sign of something more serious.

  • If you're feeling sick when you move now after that happened, you should probably call the doc. Not to mention you are worried enough to be asking us...call the doc just to be safe. And be careful.

I walked into the edge of our bedroom door in the dark one time and that almost made me pass out, it hurt so bad. But I was fine the next day.

CALL THE DOC. You'll feel better.
