My husband is insistant we get the graco angelcare movement sensor however I don't know how necessary it is. I think it might be a waste of money/maybe being a little overly cautious. What are other peoples opinions about this product? LO will be sleeping in a cradle right next to our bed. I know you can't be too cautious but I don't want to waste a $100.
Re: STM's is the movement sensor necessary?
I think it's a very personal choice.
With our first I felt it was a waste of money with businesses cashing in on parental anxiety. Then I had a real baby that I was scared to go to sleep in case she stopped breathing (she was a perfectly healthy baby and I had no reason to feel especially anxious) so we went and bought one when she was a few days old.
It gave us a couple of false alarms when she'd moved off the sensor pad. And some alarms where I had to nudge her to get to her breath, and I will never know if I "saved her life" or if she was just holding her breath because she could.
I've never really been convinced that having the sensor would allow you to save a baby's life if it truly did stop breathing, but I figured I'd rather feel like I'd had every chance.
DD2 sleeps in our bed at night, so never on a sensor, and I have to remind myself to switch it on her cot during the day. So I guess I've relaxed.
I don't think there is a right or wrong, just doing what you feel most comfortable with. Maybe don't buy one yet and see how you feel when baby is home?

I agree with the other bumpies that have already posted, it's just a matter of personal opinion really...and I don't think dubbing it a waste of money is fair if if gives you peace of mind as a parent...no matter what others might think about it!
They are pricey though, aren't they?
Our little one isn't here just yet, and I'll be a first time mom when she gets here. She'll be sleeping with the Hubs and I, right next to our bed, but I did already purchase one of these for her to wear...
I'm a bit of a known worrier though, so I'm confident already that my odd $100 was well spent!

For us it was the only way we were able to rest. DH is medical and he agreed with me that knowing the monitor would alarm if our LO stopped breathing or for some reason was not in her crib was definitely worth the money. They send the same monitors home with preemies from the NICU at DH's hospital. Peace of mind that you can't get from a video monitor in my opinion.
They have a basic Angelare with one monitor rather than two (all you need in my opinion) for just $68 at Wal-Mart with free shipping. That's really not a bad price for a great monitor.
