My shower is this weekend and I'm starting to stress since all that was bought off the registry was a swing and our bedding.. Don't get me wrong, that's awesome and I appreciate it. But I'm worried all we are going to have are clothes, which we have plenty from hand me downs... I'm sure it would be worse if we were having a girl since people (myself included) love to buy pretty outfits. Ok. I'm done being a whiney brat now..

Me too... I've been known to stop and pick up a gift on the way!
It's my moms fault now.. My aunts neighbor was giving me a glider but changed her mind. No big deal. My mom was like oh we'll you HAVE to get one. I tried explaining to her that there are other things I might HAVE to buy first, like of.. I don't know.. A car seat? So now my brain is in numbers mode.. We are in no way 'well off' money wise. But do ok, but there's things we need before a glider.
I had a work shower last Wednesday, and I was tipped off by the fact that a whole bunch of stuff was bought off of my registry on Tuesday.
Typically, a lot of shopping is done a few days before.
This exactly.
DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.
This. Mine was on Sunday and it was probably Thursday before stuff starting showing up as bought off the registry.
I stalked my registry to before the shower, so don't feel bad.
It was my experience though (even though we had about 5-6 people who got something completely different), the rest shopped off our registry the same day as the shower or got us a gift card for the store.
This. I promise.
I received gift receipts with a majority of the gifts at my shower, whether they were from the registry or not. Making returns can be kind of a pain, but all those duplicate outfits and toys can add up to a big ticket item.
Also, I personally will try to find the cheapest price for an item off the registry (usually amazon) so in that case, it won't appear as having been purchased. Don't stress!!
Proud Mama to cleft cutie
I wouldn't worry people always shop late and usually the day of the event.
With that said I got 1 item of my regristry. I got tons of cute clothes and stuffed animals etc. NO diapers, wipes or lotions. I admit I cried after my shower because I was sad that my friends had given me a ton of stuff that I really didnt need. And I cried because I felt so bad about being annoyed about not getting items I wanted/needed. My dh and I could afford all our baby items ourselves but people wasted their money and that is what really bothered me. I ended up donating a lot of the stuff that I couldn't exchange and was happy to help another mom that maybe didnt have anything.
My shower was this past Sunday and as of the Friday before my shower there was almost nothing off of my registry. Several people shopped on Saturday and several others bought stuff off my registry but either they didn't have it scanned or something happened that didn't update the registry. I did also get some gifts that I did not register for, but that was ok becasue they are things I will use.
I wouldn't stress if I was you. From my entire shower the only things I have to exchange/take back is 2 formula dispensers (I got 4), 1 pack of nipples (they got standard instead of wide), 1 pack of 6 bibs (duplicate) and a baby wash gift set (I want a different brand). I also didn't receive that many clothes (which is good since I am getting tons of hand me downs from SIL and DH and I and love shopping for clothes).
I've had 3 showers so far, and the registries never reflected everything that was purchased off of them. I've had to manually update them every time. At my last shower, I got 3 of the same hamper, and it still was showing as available on the registry!
I know it's hard not to check out the registry, but it probably isn't indicative of everything your friends and family have purchased for your little one!
