At the risk of sounding like a brat..

My shower is this weekend and I'm starting to stress since all that was bought off the registry was a swing and our bedding.. Don't get me wrong, that's awesome and I appreciate it. But I'm worried all we are going to have are clothes, which we have plenty from hand me downs... I'm sure it would be worse if we were having a girl since people (myself included) love to buy pretty outfits. Ok. I'm done being a whiney brat now..

  • People never take things off registries when they buy off them.  Believe me!  I'm sure they've been buying off of it.  Also, if they don't, they usually do gift cards, which I kind of prefer.  I'm sure you'll have plenty of gift cards!

  • You're not a brat! :)  But people really do tend to shop last minute. I bet you'll be pleasantly suprised at your shower. Enjoy!!! Mine is this weekend too! :)

I buy shower gifts the day before, because I'm busy and forget to do it earlier.

Pretty sure I'm in the majority.

Me too... I've been known to stop and pick up a gift on the way!

  • It's my moms fault now.. My aunts neighbor was giving me a glider but changed her mind. No big deal. My mom was like oh we'll you HAVE to get one. I tried explaining to her that there are other things I might HAVE to buy first, like of.. I don't know.. A car seat? So now my brain is in numbers mode.. We are in no way 'well off' money wise. But do ok, but there's things we need before a glider.

  • I had a work shower last Wednesday, and I was tipped off by the fact that a whole bunch of stuff was bought off of my registry on Tuesday.

Typically, a lot of shopping is done a few days before.

  • You are not a brat! I am the same way since I have begun registry stalking (I know, I know)...although my showers arent until later this month. Baby stuff can get expensive, so it can be stressful, but try not to worry-like PP's mentioned, many people tend to shop last minute or give money/gift cards-which helps just as much (and you dont have to worry about returning/exchanging that, lol).

    This exactly.

  • Probably 98% of the wedding or baby showers I've gone to I've bought on the way to the shower.  It is much easier to fit into my schedule that way - leave 1/2 hour early, and I am all set!  I wouldn't worry about it too much.

This. Mine was on Sunday and it was probably Thursday before stuff starting showing up as bought off the registry.

  • Yep.  No one bought off my registry until the day of.  It'll be okay! :)

  • My shower is Sunday cross country, some large stuff has arrived in the last 2 weeks, but the majority of our registries are still largely unfulfilled. We're Team Green, so I hope people aren't buying a bunch of clothes, yet my aunt did send a package yesterday with a clear girl outfit, which I'm a little peeved about just in case this LO turns out to be a boy like we think. I'm just hoping this means we're getting lots of gift cards, or people are going to be buying small things the day before the shower off the registry, just because there is no way large or bulky items are going back on the plane with us, and I don't want to spend a ton of money shipping stuff back home.

  • I stalked my registry to before the shower, so don't feel bad.

It was my experience though (even though we had about 5-6 people who got something completely different), the rest shopped off our registry the same day as the shower or got us a gift card for the store.

  • Id just be worried the eve of the shower. Some of my family bought and didnt tell them to take it off the registry so dont worry!
  • Thanks ladies. I'm so excited for this shower, my mom and BFF have worked so hard on it. It's also the first time my extended family is meeting my SO daughter. So a bit nervous too.. Can't believe how fast time has gone!

  • I received gift receipts with a majority of the gifts at my shower, whether they were from the registry or not. Making returns can be kind of a pain, but all those duplicate outfits and toys can add up to a big ticket item.

Also, I personally will try to find the cheapest price for an item off the registry (usually amazon) so in that case, it won't appear as having been purchased. Don't stress!!

  • I agree with what people said.  Also I got a lot of gift reciepts with our stuff for my shower.  I returned stuff that didn't work for gift cards and made one huge purchase at the end.  I also looked at what I had and what I could do without if I needed something more and returned that item.

  • I agree with a PP...people do tend to not tell the cashier to take items off of a registry. But even if you get a ton of clothes, I'm sure you'll be able to return them for things you need!

  • Also, quite a few big items were bought on the way to the shower like the swing and the nursing pillow.  Don't stress!!
  • I wouldn't worry people always shop late and usually the day of the event.

With that said I got 1 item of my regristry. I got tons of cute clothes and stuffed animals etc. NO diapers, wipes or lotions. I admit I cried after my shower because I was sad that my friends had given me a ton of stuff that I really didnt need. And I cried because I felt so bad about being annoyed about not getting items I wanted/needed. My dh and I could afford all our baby items ourselves but people wasted their money and that is what really bothered me. I ended up donating a lot of the stuff that I couldn't exchange and was happy to help another mom that maybe didnt have anything.

  • My shower was this past Sunday and as of the Friday before my shower there was almost nothing off of my registry.  Several people shopped on Saturday and several others bought stuff off my registry but either they didn't have it scanned or something happened that didn't update the registry.  I did also get some gifts that I did not register for, but that was ok becasue they are things I will use.

I wouldn't stress if I was you.  From my entire shower the only things I have to exchange/take back is 2 formula dispensers (I got 4), 1 pack of nipples (they got standard instead of wide), 1 pack of 6 bibs (duplicate) and a baby wash gift set (I want a different brand).  I also didn't receive that many clothes (which is good since I am getting tons of hand me downs from SIL and DH and I and love shopping for clothes).

  • i wouldnt pay attention to the "bought" column on the registry...  people rarely tell the cashier the item purchased is for a registry, let alone get the gift ahead of time.  I wouldnt stress it too much; but then again, i just found out my MIL sent out shower invites without the registry info.  lol.
  • People like to shop last minute.  I had a shower a couple weeks ago and I received things off my registry, but it didn't show up as them being bought.  I had to manually go into my registry and put that were bought.  I've heard this happens a lot with BRU.

  • I've had 3 showers so far, and the registries never reflected everything that was purchased off of them. I've had to manually update them every time. At my last shower, I got 3 of the same hamper, and it still was showing as available on the registry!

I know it's hard not to check out the registry, but it probably isn't indicative of everything your friends and family have purchased for your little one!

  • I didn't see stuff come off our list until the day before. Worse case scenario you return some stuff you don't want or need. I returned 300 bucks worth of stuff from duplicates and stuff we changed our minds on. No one knows the difference. I wouldn't worry
