Hi all, I'm having a rough week so far and I'd love to hear it's going to be ok! My husbands company switched our insurance plan April 1st, about halfway through this pregnancy. We were told the provider network would remain the same and there wouldn't be any issues with having to change doctors. Well I just got my first EOB from the new plan and it clearly says my doctor is not a preferred in network doctor. (We have a PPO and need to see an in network doctor or pay tons of $$). The hospital is in network so at least we don't have to change hospitals. Yesterday I was very upset about all of this and today I have decided to take control of the situation and figure out whats best for me and the babies.
S here I am 31 weeks pregnant with twins and I'm going to have to switch doctors! There is one other doctor in the same practice as my doctor and she is covered by my new plan. I have only seen her once and I have no idea what her experience is with twins. My babies have been head down for almost the entire time and I am VERY interested in a vaginal birth. I really hadn't had a deep conversation with the first doctor regarding
my "birth plan", but felt an overall confidence in her experience and
outstanding reputation. She is the head of the OBGYN department of the
hospital.
According to my insurance database, this new doctor is not board certified- that freaks me out!? Should it? I am kicking myself for not asking these questions sooner! If a vaginal birth was something you were interested in, did you find your doctor to be supportive? What important questions would you ask this new doctor? I appreciate any advice or experience you might have. Thanks!
Re: insurance changed- now my OB isn't covered :(
Oh, that stinks! I'm sorry.
I will say, I was exactly 31w when I switched OBs (and hospitals) and it worked out really well for me, but that was by choice and I had interviewed the OB before I switched. It was still kind of a tough choice at that stage of the game but DH and I were both really happy in the end.
Are you seeing an MFM at all too? Is that a possibility?
This is usually because they have just finished training and since boards are only offered once per year (November), they may not have taken them yet or just haven't updated their profile that they passed the boards last year. They are almost certainly board eligible, which means they have finished all training necessary to sit for the boards. You should be able to google them and see when they finished residency. So it's not a red flag that they aren't board certified.
As for the vaginal birth, that was the first thing my OB mentioned at our first visit. She prefers to do vaginal deliveries for twins if at all possible. I would definitely ask about your OB's experience and comfort level with twin vaginal deliveries.
Hopefully you are able to get your coverage continued, but if not, I'm sure the doctors will work with you to make everything work out in your and your babies' best interest! Good luck.
