Late Period, Negative HPT. Can anyone relate? Help.

Hi, this is my very first post and I'm looking for some help and advise.

My cycles every month are very regular, 34 days. I got very excited this month when I missed my period, there were no factors to account for the lateness (no strees, not too much exercise etc.) so I assumed I must be have conceived! But after 2 home pregnancy tests, turns out they say it's a negative.

The fact that I am 8 days late now, my cycle is now at 42 days, this is very irregular for me. Why the negative result? Why would I have missed my period if I'm not pregnant? I don't feel any symptoms but I'm hoping for the best. My husband and I have been trying for a year. Can anyone relate? Any advise ... ?

If your period is really that late, then a HPT should be accurate - there's very little chance that you actually are pregnant right now.

Have you been tracking your ovulation (OPK, BBT, etc)? If you ovulated late or have had an anovulatory cycle (where you haven't ovulated), then your period technically isn't late. I think once you reach the 60 days mark or so, you can contact your obgyn/RE and get a prescription for Provera that will jump start your next cycle.

It could be that you ovulated late in your cycle. I would definitely try OPK!

What's it like to be regular? I think I'm on day 56 right now with no sign of AF or pregnancy. Of course, PCOS might have SOMEthing to do with that! ;-)

"Original Poster." If you have been trying for a year, this might be the appropriate place for you, but we mostly talk about infertility treatment here. General questions like the one you asked might be better asked on the Trying to Get Pregnant board.

I'm right there with you. My period is only 3 days late but this was my first Clomid cycle, so I know for a fact (ultrasound and bloodwork) I ovulated May 19th. If I was pregnant, my HPT SHOULD be + by now, but it remains negative. No sign of period on the horizon. I feel pregnant (I was once before, lost @ 11 weeks) but I've read Clomid can do that to a woman, even if she's not pregnant. So what to do? I went to my MD today for a blood test, so hopefully tomorrow I will know for a fact if I am pregnant or not. I have PCOS so my periods have never been really regular but I did assume since I know I ovulated, my period should come around 14 days after that. Best of luck to you, hope you get your positive soon. If I were you, I'd go get the blood test so you can have some final answers.

Sometimes, it just happens. No rhyme or reason. I know exactly when I ovulated, because I saw my follie release on screen during my IUI and my period was still 6 days late. I didn't see AF until I was 20 DPO..so it happens. If you don't get your period in a few weeks, call the doctor..

Could be a cyst that is secreting hormones and delaying things. Like others said, see your doc if AF doesn't show in a few weeks.

I am going to book an appointment with my doc if I don't see AF in another week ... I am just hoping that the absence if my period isn't a sign that I'm not ovulating. I had an arrested miscarriage 7 months ago that required a D&C, it was devastating, I was 11 wks along. Feels like ever since then it's been impossible to conceive (and trust me we're trying). My husband and I have been together for 8 years, and we can't wait for our first child.
