LO fell and banged his head/ear hard. advice needed

LO was climbing and fell and hit is head on the side of my bed. At first I didn't see any bruises or marks or anything but now his ear is swelling up and has a bruise on it. He is acting fine and his pupils are the same size. It's only a little red behind his ear.

I'm just worried there is more damage than I can see. Does anybody have any  experience with this? I've been putting ice on it as long as he sits still. please and thank you for your advice!!

Re: LO fell and banged his head/ear hard. advice needed

  • Mine falls and hits her head all.the.time. It comes with the territory of pulling herself up on every surface in our house. I would just keep a close eye on it, especially since he is acting fine. If it's still pretty swollen in a few hours, you can always call the after hours pediatrician and see what they have to say about it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, it's usually just a waiting game when it comes to bangs and bumps unless it seems like LO is in immediate distress.

  • I say, if you are worried enough about LO to post online about it...call the ped, even if it's after hours.  Peace of mind is better than "I wish I would have" going through your head all day.
  • I would say if he's acting ok, then he is BUT I would still call the pedi or take him to an ER to be safe.
