Please don't do a diaper raffle. Just let people go to the mother-to-be's registery and buy a gift of their choosing. Please don't dictate that they have to bring more than their baby shower gift.

bringing diapers isn't mandatory and i've been to several showers with a diaper raffle. didn't bother me a bit. wasn't looking for opinions on them, thanks tho
There are not many fans of Diaper Raffles here. That being said, I would word it to make the raffle entirely optional.
(in smaller print at bottom of invite)
We will be having an optional diaper raffle. If you would like to participate, please consider bringing a small package of diapers for a chance to win a door prize.
i'm working on invites for a shower i'm hosting and need wording for the diaper raffle portion. ideas? TIA!
I know you're already buying a lot,
but diapers for poo, those she has not.
So when you're out shopping and buying her stuff,
toss some diapers in, she can't have enough.
My friend doesn't know, I'm being so crass
so bring lots of diapers, to cover that as$!
If you buy what I order, if you spend lots more cash
You'll win a some cheap soap, here's to no rash!
Don't worry though, you don't *have* to partake
I'll just judge you, while I'm serving you cake.
Btw, when you post on the internet, you're opening yourself to the opinions of others, esp when you post something so poorly received by so many.

wowsas, simmer down. did you spend a lot of time on that? the whole diaper raffle thing really isn't a big deal where i live, and it was my friend's idea (for her shower). doesn't matter to me one way or the other if people bring diapers, but we are giving away a gift certificate to a nice spa, so it's not like it's some $10 door prize. people spend what they can afford, and it is optional.

Hardly.

Why don't you take the money you were going to spend on a gift certificate to a nice spa and put it towards a bunch of diapers, or a gift certificate to diapers.com or amazon mom?
And the optional thing is b.s. People don't want to be the only one who doesn't partake in something, so they bring diapers even though they think it is tacky as hell.

I see diaper raffles quite a lot in my area and I have never purchased diapers for one, nor have I felt bad about not participating. Plenty of people at the showers I have gone to don't participate. My thoughts are it's a game, you can either choose to play or not. I choose not to. I try very hard to follow proper etiquette, but there really is no rule of etiquette that says it is wrong to hold a
raffle at your shower. I have never heard anyone say one bad thing about them, except on this board. I think this may be very regional, kind of like surprise showers, which I think are dumb, but that's just my opinion. Who the hell cares if a stranger has a diaper raffle, it's NMS, but really who cares?
One of my friends, who is hosting my shower, feels very strongly about doing this and I said I really don't want to. Since we are CDing I don't think it will be an issue.

Wow, didn't think the whole diaper raffle thing was such a huge deal. Almost every shower that I have been to has had one and I look at it as diapers is the number one thing that a baby needs, why not make it fun and throw in a door prize. I have even been to showers where diapers was the only gift the mother requested. So really, chill out. Diapers are just the same as registering for a stroller or crib and playing the Bingo gift game while the mom to be opens gifts; you also get a gift out of the game if you play just right! Geez ladies, get a grip. If you don't like it then opt out easy as that! :-)
Didn't make up people needing stupid poems to cover up tacky greed? No, I didn't make that up.
That specific poem? Yes, I did make that up.

Wow, I think her question was diaper raffle/drawing wording not do you think it's tacky to have a diaper raffle/drawing..... I think the people that would make a big deal out of something like this just love drama.... If you are inviting the people who trully care about the mother/father to be and the baby they would never think something like this is tacky

Right. Because we're all just sucky friends who don't "trully" care about the people for whom the shower is thrown. I care about my friends and family, and would most definitely side-eye a diaper raffle at a shower. If I wan't to buy someone diapers, I'll darn well do it myself without being coerced into it by a tacky game.

It takes far less time than digging up old posts from months ago. Don't lose too much sleep, 95% of my poems take as much or less time than any other of my replies.

And no, Ballsox did not take forever to make up that poem. She's technically the BSB poet laureate, and can conjur up a poem faster than some people can think of a reply.
And while I've never been to a baby shower with a diaper raffle, I don't know how I would feel if I went to one with one, I probably would not participate. Since the MTB wants one, make the wording short and simple.
