" Head hasn't dropped down"-How would you read that?

That was said today during my internal.. after they confirmed my cervix is thinning.

My dd was breach the first ultrasounds- the last one they said she was head down..

Recently I have felt a lot of sideways movements- like- full left and right movements, not much real low. If I feel hickups they are down, but to the side.. not central...

Based on the comment above- do you think that she still isnt in position and that is perhaps still breached?

My Doctors office said that they will do another ultrasound in acouple weeks to check position and size.. so my guess is she isnt fully head down yet. I am not investing too much into the comment, as I know she still can move- just wondering.

Thanks!

  • I would read that as baby is still riding high, but not necessarily think that baby was in the wrong position. That's just my two cents.

That was my initial thought, but a coworker in my office (who has a medical background, but not OB) said she thought it meant that she is still breached.. so it got my curiosity spinning :-)

  • Mine is similar. He's transverse, but she said when the time came, he would most likely go head down.

  • Yes I would think he meant that the head is just high still, not breech necessarily.  The head is probably just not engaged yet...it may be a few weeks before it does that, but your LO could be in the right position until then!  :)

Nah, I would think if LO was still breach they would have been more specific.  My first thought was definitely that LOs head simply wasn't engaged yet.

  • I would try to get an answer from the doctor so you aren't left worrying or speculating.

  • It sounds like it means that the baby hasn't dropped yet.  So she might be in the head down position, just not "dropped" into the pelvis yet.  I was told at my 35 week appointment that it would still be a few more weeks until he dropped and I don't see any real significant change a week later.  I don't think that comment would mean that she is breach.  I agree that they would probably tell you at this point if she was breach so you could consider your options at least, so you should be ok.  I know my baby is head down because I had an ultrasound last week but I still feel movements high up and to the sides, feeling movement low is very rare.  I also still feel hiccups high up and to the sides even though I know from the ultrasound that his head is down (kinda weird).  Good luck!
