Clicky: How much night-time sleep?

Just curious where everyone is at now....not sure if I need to put DD down for bed earlier or not. I read the average amount of night-time for 12 month old babies is 11 and 1/4 hours and she's only getting 9.5-10.[Poll]

LO would sleep 11+ but I keep him up late playing with him.

  • Wow. It looks like most everyone is getting more sleep than her. She's gotten more difficult to put down to bed at night and maybe it's because she's in a cycle of being overtired.

I have that problem.  Used to be my goal bathtime and working on sleep by 7:30.  Now it is around 8:30 because we are having too much fun.

  • I voted 9-10 but it's really between 9 and 11 hours. DS goes down between 8 and 9 and will wake up anywhere from 530 to 730.

We're in the same boat here.  He's been so difficult to get to bed.  Once he's in bed he's out, and you'd hope he'd sleep in, but nope.  Internal clock says it's 6:30 at 6:30 every morning, no matter what.

I voted 11-12, but it's actually 12+. I need to put her down earlier because I've been waking her up in the morning (usually 12 hours after she went to sleep) because I need to leave for work.

On the weekend, she'll sleep 12.5 hours or sometimes more.

But I should mention that she hardly naps. She'll nap 1 hour max at daycare (sometimes as little as 30 minutes) for the entire day....so she needs the hours at night.

  • Jyles sleeps 9.5-10, very rarely 11. He naps 3+ hrs a day.

  • I'm really jealous of the 50% of you who get 12 hours of sleep per night.  DD usually sleeps ~10 solid hours (8pm-6am) and then is wide awake.  Perhaps I should try moving her bedtime earlier?  She also only naps ~2 hrs per day total so she gets ~12 hours total, which is on the low end but still in the average range for this age, according to Toddler 411.

  • DD sleeps 12-12.5 hours usually.  She goes to bed at 7.  She wakes after about 8 hours to nurse and then back to bed until 7/7:30. She naps for 3ish hours a day.

  • Everything I've read talks in term of total sleep during a 24 hour period- it doesn't really matter if it's at night or through naps. That's true for adults, too, since we have multiple sleep/wake cycles at night.

Sylvia sleeps about 10 hours at night and naps for about 2 hours during the day. She's not scheduled; that's what she does on her own, so I assume she's getting enough. She never seems overtired. She does take awhile to fall asleep at night, though.

IMHO, if LO is napping well, and doesn't seem tired or overly cranky, I wouldn't worry :)
