Shoes

My kid hates them. As in complete meltdown when I put them on him. I know this is my fault for not making him wear them previously, but he's still not walking and it's hot here and I just haven't felt the need to put them on him. I have a feeling we are in for a load of trouble when he actually does have to wear them.

Anyone else have a kid that hates to wear shoes? What do you do?

Bailey doesn't throw a fit but she takes them off almost as soon as I put them on. If she's in her car seat, forget about it...they're off. I usually just put them in my bag and put them on when we get someplace I feel she should be wearing them. Bailey doesn't walk yet either so it's not AS big a deal but I know it'll be a fight once she is so I'm trying to use them as much as possible.

This is what happened this morning when I attempted to put them on him. I caved and took them off before taking him to daycare. I'm thinking we need to do some shoe bootcamp this weekend to get him used to them.

Awwwww!

With dd we let her play with them a lot before we put them on her. And we showed her how we put on our shoes - eventually she walked up to me with her shoe in her hand and sat down and tried to put it on herself. She kind of freaked out once they were actually on her but now she is used to it (and she walks, so it was a big deal to get them on her!)

We had this problem before Abigail started walking. Once she started walking she was fine with them on while she was walking. She still tries to take them off in her carseat. She also will try to put them on. I wouldn't worry about it too much until he's walking.

Thanks ladies! I guess I won't stress out too much until he starts walking. Kind of thought he would be by now since he's 14 months, but he'd still rather crawl.

LO loves shoes, and tries to put them on by herself...super cute!

Keeping them on is another thing! When we are in the car she ALWAYS takes them off (not to mention socks) I have lost a few pairs of socks this way already

Maybe to get him used to shoes get those ones that make a squeeky sound every time they take a step. They might be a fun way to show him that shoes are ok.

We started early with Liam. I always got excited when putting my shoes on and put on a big show about how much fun it is. He would also play with our shoes and we would put them on his feet and he would laugh. Now anytime he sees a shoe in the floor he tries to put it on. He thinks it is super funny. I worked hard to train him. I started putting shoes on his feet in november every time we would go out. So, he is used to them and even helps me now. I will walk in to the living room with his shows and talk in my excited voice. He goes over to his anywhere chair, sits down and puts his foot in the air. My problem now is he like to undo the velcro and I am afraid it will fall off one day and I will lose an expensive shoe

Chase has pretty much been wearing shoes all winter, since it is so cold here. We put them on to keep his feet warm. They are mostly those leather moccasin style. He does take them off sometimes, but for the most part, he leaves them alone.
