How much would you charge or expect to pay?

If you were going to either watch a three month old or have your three month old watched by a SAHM at their house for 4-6hrs twice a week, how much would that cost? I'm trying to figure out how much to ask for and what's reasonable. Any ideas are appreciated.

    I say $8

Since a low level nanny is $10 and a high level nanny is $12.

An hour? So like $25 a day or so? That's kind of what I was thinking.

  • We have a part time nanny that comes 2x/wk (sometimes 3x/wk) for about 4 hours each day. I pay her $20/hr. We started at $15/hr and increased it after a few months. I say it depends on their level of experience and location. I'm sure there are more factors involved but I can't think of anything else at the moment.

  • I'm a SAHM and I watch a little boy who is one month older than DS, I make $10/hour. I go to their house but I take DS with me. If I didn't take my child with me I'd charge at least $12/hour.

$8 sounds low to me, but I'm sure COL has to be factored in. High School kids around here get paid $10/hr (or more) to babysit. I would say at least $10/hour.

  • My sister pays $15/hr to have her 1 year old babysat in her home.
  • I would say 25 or 30 a day. When we were looking at inhome care we saw rates between 80 and 250 a week, with the median around 150...

An inhome care provider should be less expensive than a nanny. Definitely depends on the nature of the agreement..

  • 12 to 15 an hour sounds reasonable to watch a baby.

  • My friend randomly has to take her 1yo to a sitter.  On those occasions, the sitter charges her $5/hour.  However, I don't think that's the only kid she watches.

IDK if that helps, but I think that's pretty good.

Most daycares in our area are $30-$45 drop in rate for all day.  So, for only 4-6 hours, it should be less than that, imo.

  • Thanks everyone. She offered $10 and that works for me. Sounds like that was near what most were thinking as well.
