Any advice on how to stay motivated (weight loss re)

I've lost most/all the baby weight, but I'm 20 lbs away from my goal weight. It feels so hopeless. I don't have a lot of time having 2 home with me all day, and my husband travels often (he's gone all week), so I don't have help either. None of my clothes fit, my stomach is a total nightmare, and I feel awful. I got really motivated a few weeks ago, lost 6 lbs, but then as I stuck with it and was eating clean/working out some, I gained 6 lbs back. I have no idea how, I wasn't cheating at all. So then I lost hope and am just back to my non-caring ways, which isn't good either. I'm thinking of just biting the bullet and signing up for WW online, but I worry I won't have time to calculate all of the points (though I could use the iPhone app).

I'm EBF and it's easy to just say I'll deal with it once I wean LO. I am pretty sure when I was watching what I ate my supply took a hit, and while it seems fine again, part of me just thinks I should stay 20 lbs overweight until I'm done with BFing.

Thoughts? How do you stay motivated when it feels like what you're doing is not producing results? It's not like I want to fit in my clothes overnight, but it's so frustrating when things just don't budge.

  • I wish I had the answer for you because I'm searching for the same answer! It's tough! I'd like to lose about 15lbs and I'm finding it's very tough to get motivated. Like right now I know I should be doing a yoga class (free with our cable) while LO sleeps but instead I'm lurking on bump! :-)

  • I'm in the exact same boat except that I have 30lbs to lose.  I'm not doing anything to lose weight because I'm determined to BF for a year, and I'm not willing to do anything that even might jeopardize that.  I figure I have the rest of my life to look fabulous, I'm just eating healthy, exercising when I can, drinking a lot of water, and letting my body do what's best for my baby right now.  We'll get there eventually!  With my first I didn't feel like I was back to "me" again till he was 2.
  • If you eat more than you burn you will either gain weight or your weight will stay the same. 2,000 Calories for me is way too much. I tried to eat 2,000 calories a day when I was pregnant because I thought I had to to have a healthy baby, but the midwife informed me that I was gaining weight way too fast so I had to slow it down. I'd say for me, even if I am breastfeeding, 1,500 calories a day is plenty. I don't do anything besides clean the house and take care of baby so I'm not really burning that much off. I'm five pounds away from pre pregnancy weight, and although my body doesn't really look the same I am happy with my weight here. Now I just need to get my ab muscles workin, and get my mama flap to go away!

  • Im in the same boat. Ive got about 30 to lose and I feel disgusting. It's so hard, especially since I allowed myself to pretty much eat whatever when I was pg and reeling it in has been super hard.

  • I pay for a gym membership. I feel like I need to get my money's worth so it forces me to go to the gym 3-4x/week in order to make a membership worth it.

  • IMO the best way to lose weight is going to be in conjunction with exercise, not just watching your diet.  SO HARD when you are the only one home with the 2 little ones.  I would get zero exercise if DH didn't work from home and take him for 1.5 hours between the morning feedings so I can run, shower and eat.  Since that's not really an option for you, just a thought if it's possible and/or practical - could you hire a sitter to watch the boys 3 days a week for 2 hours at a time just to get out for a long walk, do some core work at home and/or go for a run?  Six hours a week for a babysitter wouldn't be a crazy committment, but enough to inspire you to get moving since you have the time commitment to the sitter and the expense.  I know my progress is going to take a huge hit when I return to work next week - no way am I going to miss precious time with DS just to get a run in!  Good luck - I hope you feel better about where you are soon.

  • I've been doing WW for the last 9 weeks and have lost around 15lbs. I still have a way to go before I'm at a healthy weight so I do think being very fat to begin with has made it easier to shed weight than if you're at a healthy or almost healthy weight.

I just wanted to say about tracking the points is that it's pretty quick and easy especially if you tend to eat some foods regularly as you can save them as favourites. Also I tend to eat the same breakfast each day so I have that saved as a meal, so rather than looking up each item individually, I can just click on it as a complete item.

As to your weight gain, were you eating enough? I find the WW daily allowance very generous and I make sure I eat all my daily and weekly allowance.

I don't really exercise beyond playing and running around with 2 yr old.

  • I went a month eating really healthy but didn't loose a lb.  I think I was on a plateau but I eventually pulled out of it and started loosing again.  I'm 4 lbs away...I do a 20 min. exercise tape and eat about 1500 calories a day...go to caloriecount.about.com, it's awsome for tracking calories.  It's hard, but stick with it for no other reason than you will feel better about yourself, even if the scale doesn't show it, you will be happy to be doing something proactive.

  • I have 20 lbs to go too. I am in a wedding in August. Ughh. And I just had to ordre my dress.

My new motivation is that none of my clothes fit.  So I put away all of my pregnancy clothes and I am rotating a few outfits.

I also pulled out all of my shorts and dresses.  I have a black slim fitting dress hanging up on our closet door.  It is my new daily reminder of how I want to fit into it.

    We will see...

I don't know if you are reading this as it is old, but anyway.  I started doing P90X and Insanity (Team Beachbody products) and drinking Shakeology every day.  I have 3 girls ages 5, 3, and 10 months and am a full time working mom and wife.  I get up every morning at around 5:30 to get my workout in before the kiddos wake up so I can get it in and not take any time away from them.  This is also my uninterupted ME time and I love it.  I have found on the days that I don't have a workout scheduled I get lax in what I eat.  Otherwise I pretty much stay on track because I don't want to undo all the hard work I've put in.  I've gotten pretty amazing results from doing this.  If you want more details, just pm me.  Hope this info helps and good luck.
